Meet Jordan Crump of JC Photography in West Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Crump.

Jordan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began taking pictures as a child with a small disposable camera, and getting the film developed brought me a lot of joy. One day I borrowed my older sister’s small digital camera and ended up making images with it until I wore it out, and the shutter would no longer open. My parents, one day told me they could see me becoming a professional photographer, but the 15 year old me told them I only liked doing it for fun. Fast forward to my sophomore year in College at the University of Southern Mississippi, and I’m sitting in the advisor’s office, changing my major to photojournalism. But the dream and vision of pursuing a career in photography still weren’t clear of roadblocks after having a conversation with someone who told me I would not be able to make a good amount of money doing photography and that conversation clouded my vision since providing for my family was a top priority of mine. Since I liked shooting video as well I went on to change my major to broadcast journalism and graduated with the degree in 2015. I began a career as a news photographer/reporter and have worked in the media field consistently since graduation and I’m forever grateful for it because it has been the backbone for me monetarily as the prime source of income for my photography business. Even though my major changed the passion for still photography never left. My passion grew for discovering more about editing techniques, shooting styles, equipment, and entrepreneurship in general. This educational phase lead into eventually creating an LLC for my photography in Mississippi and working on a variety of different projects for hundreds of clients there. But moving to Atlanta, Georgia into a huge market where many photography companies were thriving sparked my interest and after months of planning, saving, and prayer I stepped out on faith and made my move and hit the ground running. I’ve been in Atlanta now a little over a year, and it is amazing to see how the leap of faith has been a blessing to my life. I accepted another job opportunity with a local news station and have had the opportunity to photograph some amazing people here. I’m excited to see what the future holds as my photography business continues to grow in Atlanta.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the road has not been all smooth. I am no stranger to adversity, and I believe anyone who is pursuing entrepreneurship would tell you the same. But I have grown to embrace it and use it as fuel to continue pushing towards my goals. The decision to pick up my business and move to a new state and essentially start over with new clientele was one of the biggest decisions I have made in my life. And like any big decision, I also had people who doubted my plans. But thankfully, I trusted my vision and followed through because the story that is now being written aligns more with the things I’m passionate about and has ultimately led to more happiness in my daily life.

Please tell us about your business.
I own a photography business that specializes in providing clients with high-end portraits which vary between the categories of editorial, fashion, weddings, and couples. As a company, I am most proud of the dedication to growth and improvement that we portray—knowing that when you invest in my business one year, the quality of work and overall experience the next year will be significantly enhanced. I believe what sets me apart from others is the friendly atmosphere attached to being professional and treating being early as on time. Knowing the importance of the first impression and wanting to capitalize on leaving a good one with each new client I work with.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel the most important quality or characteristic to my success is my faith. When things get tough, when self-doubt tries to come in, or when adversity hits, I always focus on my faith. It ultimately ensures that no matter how tough things may seem on my journey in this business, I will never quit making strides or give up until I leave an impact on my area of the world.
