Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Roman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jordan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up, I’ve always been doubted, underestimated, and considered the underdog. Although some people may find it hard to believe from looking on the outside in. During my final semester of college, I begin preparing myself for life after football. I begin researching careers and applying for jobs. Once I graduated in December 2014 from Alabama A&M University and found myself jobless, I began to think that something went wrong. I was always told after you graduate from college you would get a job and begin living your life. Once I realized that was not how things really worked; I decided to re-evaluated things and during this process I found a part-time job working at Footlocker thanks to one of my best friends Jordan Rinehart.
While working at Footlocker, I discovered three things about myself one was that retail was not for me, secondly I had great management skills, and lastly, I wanted to be my own boss. I was promoted to a manager role within four months of working with the company which was at the time the fastest they had ever promoted an employee to a manager role. After a few months of working and researching, I knew I had to find something else. I found my next job serving as a PE teacher at Drew Charter Elementary School in Atlanta, Georgia. This is where I gained a passion for working with the youth. I enjoyed teaching about health and the importance of remaining active. However, this was still not the job for me after serving in this role for one year; I took my talents to the classroom. I became a special education teacher.
Never in a million years did I ever think this would be something that I would sign up for. Nonetheless, this job changed my whole outlook on life. While working with the kids I served and still serve today, I gained a new level of humbleness that one can only gain from actually being in the mix. These kids touched me in ways I never could imagine and open my eyes to problems I never knew existed. I had several stressful days where I thought I was not going to make it but this is when I gained an even stronger relationship with God and a stronger commitment. While speaking with God on several occasions asking him for answers and guidance, things begin to take shape and make sense. My plan and purpose became clear and I figured out what it is God has called me to do. Just a few months later, 50 Sports Company was born. I have a lot of people to thank for helping me get to this point in my life but I’ll save it for the documentary; they know who they are and they know I appreciate them more than ever, and I would not be here without them. The youth truly have stolen my heart and my passion to serve has outweighed many things that once mattered. I firmly believe that everything in life happens for a reason whether you understand it at the time or not. Nothing in life just happens just because; and once you begin to understand that truly and embrace the journey, that’s when I believe you will understand your purpose in life and you will flourish.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve been extremely blessed when it comes to resources and being able to ask for help from others. When you do right by others, of course, people will remember that and will not mind giving you advice or lending a hand. However, I would say the biggest obstacle I’ve faced is getting others to believe in me and my plan fully. I relate it to my time playing sports; I was never looked at the guy coaches would pick first or assume was a great athlete. I have always had to prove myself no matter what. I’ve always been a “go big or go home” type of man and that can sometimes scare people away. On this journey, I realize that everybody does not and will not have the capacity to see my vision. Sometimes, when your dream is so big; others may attempt to box you in so that can conceptualize it. Still, this journey I’m on will continue no matter what. I will continue to push myself and this company until we reach our goals.

The Atlanta area is perfect for this type of business. Atlanta is known for all its athletes it has produced and will continue to produce. There are a lot of youth athletes that need guidance in sports and life after sports. This is why I created this company, to be able to reach out to as many athletes as possible.
