Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordy Gamson.
Jordy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started the company back in 2001 with Scott Alterman. We wanted to provide true “cool” highly creative solutions to corporations and brands as a merchandise agency.. not just one of the 1000’s of companies that can slap a logo on something. We also have deep knowledge of apparel and uniforms. We have steadily grown from our original accounts and a few employees to a full-service team of over 80 employees and over 7000 customers. We have a very talented team of some of the most creative people in our industry. We also have an 5 person graphic design team that is crazy talented.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been an uphill battle all the way. but that’s a good thing. Three months after we started the company, Sept 11th, 2001 happened. We all remember that day.. it was terrible in many ways.. Obviously, we were attacked by terrorists but it also had a negative effect on our economy. Companies were more freaked out on what had just happened to us and were not in the mindset of making buying decisions. We were a young company and needed to work very hard to survive. Also, a lot of what we provide is corporate gifts. Hurricane Katrine, The Tsunami in Southeast Asia and the Earthquake in Haiti all were great for the Red Cross, but not for companies like ours who were not getting gift orders during those terrible events. I really can’t blame them either.
Finally, we had to survive the Great Recession.. corporate gifts, swag, and branded apparel and usually the first to get cut from budgets during any recession let alone the worst one since the Great Depression.
Nonetheless, we not only survived, we grew consistently since 2001. I think the main reason is because we have never had it easy so our constant focused on winning new business has worked in our favor… plus, we do great work and that always helps.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Icebox-Cool Stuff, LLC – what should we know?
We are an extremely creative Swag, Branded Apparel, and Uniform company.
We are incredibly responsive to our customers and we take a fresh creative approach to everything we do.
We are most proud of our incredible team we have built over the past 15 years.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Without question our people.. they make us great.
