Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Lopez.
Hi Joseph, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey started with a deep love for music and sound. Growing up, I was always experimenting—writing, producing, and performing wherever I could. That passion led me to pursue a formal education at Full Sail University, where I sharpened my skills in music production, engineering, and audio technology. From there, I jumped straight into the professional world, landing a role with ESPN where I had the privilege of mixing audio for flagship shows like SportsCenter, The NBA Draft Lottery, and Baseball Tonight. Being part of the Emmy-winning SportsCenter team was a major milestone in my early career.
At the same time, I was building my name as a producer, songwriter, and artist. Over the years, I’ve had my hands in more than 40 songs that made it to terrestrial radio, including the Top 100 hit “DWI” with Mims and V.I.C. As a performer, I’ve shared stages with icons like Pitbull, Post Malone, Lil Wayne, and Becky G—those moments really fueled my creative fire and taught me how to connect with diverse audiences.
One of the biggest shifts in my career came through sync licensing. I’ve co-written theme songs for shows on E!, Bravo, and WETV, and had music placed across major platforms including ESPN, NCIS, and The NBA. One of the highlights was “Champion Cultura,” a track I created with Vikina, which was chosen as ESPN’s “Music of the Month” and featured across their major programming.
Today, I’m focused on bridging cultures and genres, especially as the in-house producer for Latin Pop artist Gabby B, whose music is reaching global audiences. Every step of my journey—from live shows to studio sessions to TV placements—has been about staying creative, staying consistent, and always aiming to elevate the music.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. Chasing your dreams requires an enormous amount of hard work, sacrifice, and resilience. Along the way, I’ve had to give up a lot of things I liked in order to stay focused on what I truly love. I’ve made mistakes, and at times, I even tried to cut corners—but I quickly learned that you can’t skip steps when it comes to becoming your best self. Every challenge, every setback has been a lesson that’s helped shape who I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Just a quick bit about me: I’m an Emmy-winning audio engineer (as an A1 on the production team for SportsCenter at ESPN), national charting music producer, recording engineer, songwriter, and artist based in the Atlanta area. I specialize in Urban, Pop, and Global sonics—styles like Reggaeton, Afrobeats, and Brazilian Funk. On the sync side, I’ve created theme songs and had music placed across major networks including ESPN, the NBA, CBS, ABC, E!, Bravo, WETV, and more.
I’m always striving to expand, learn, and grow. As a producer, I take pride not just in crafting the music, but in helping artists build their full brand. My goal is to ensure an artist’s sound aligns seamlessly with their story, aesthetic, and identity—bridging the gap between how they see themselves and how their audience connects with them.
What’s next?
Looking ahead, I’m focused on working closely with emerging artists to help develop their sound, shape their identity, and build stars from the ground up. I’m passionate about the long game—investing in talent and seeing the full creative and brand potential come to life. On the sync side, I’m aiming to grow even more consistent with placements, themes, and custom projects across TV, film, and advertising. I want to continue expanding my reach in that space while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible sonically and culturally. Ultimately, it’s about creating timeless work that connects—whether it’s on stage, on screen, or in someone’s headphones.
