Meet Josh Guerrieri of FitWit in Kirkwood and Old Fourth Ward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Guerrieri.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Josh. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My wife and I started FitWit in 2006 because we saw a better way to do group fitness that focused, not only on great workouts but also on building community. Our friend, Ben Thoele, joined the team shortly after that and we created a non-profit arm as well, The FitWit Foundation, which helped build character and develop strength in kids.

Over the last 11-12 years, we’ve worked with thousands of people to achieve their fitness potential. We now operate out of two gym locations – one in the Kirkwood neighborhood and one in the Old Fourth Ward.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We’re very proud that we’ve grown every year that we’ve been in business, though our journey has had the typical ups and downs that any successful business experiences.

In our first 8 years, we primarily operated our classes at parks, schools, and churches where we developed a partnership to utilize the facilities. Over time, this became challenging not only from a logistical perspective in accessing the facilities but also because weather played such a big part. Working out in the rain may be a cool experience once or twice, but that novelty wears off after a while.

So, we essentially rebuilt the airplane mid-flight in 2015. We condensed our four outdoor locations to two indoor gym locations. Such a big change obviously resulted in some turbulence, but behind the strength of a very loyal community, we’ve come out on the other side even stronger.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about FitWit – what should we know?
FitWit is a practical fitness solution that helps people move better and get stronger by focusing on functional strength, cardio conditioning, and mobility. Our cross-training group workouts can include everything from sprints to kettlebell training to old-school bodyweight exercises, and our top-notch trainer’s program workouts weeks in advance to ensure balance and results. And it’s a lot of fun too!

We’re proud of the fact that we’ve been in business for almost 12 years in a very saturated fitness market. It’s tough to differentiate yourself in the gym space because often times it becomes a commodity where customers can’t really distinguish many differences between gyms.

We’ve been fortunate to position ourselves as having both the best coaches and best community. Our commitment to quality coaching really sets us apart from your average group fitness gym. We invest in great people and it shows!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We’ve been fortunate to have an amazing staff with very low turnover. In the fitness industry, it’s common to have a rotating door with new coaches every few months. We currently have 7 coaches on staff that have been with us for at least 3 years.

We also have an amazingly loyal member base, some of whom have been here all 11 years!

Pricing:

  • Memberships range $150 – $250/month, depending on # of workouts/month and monthly comittment.
