Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Beach-Calvin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Joshua. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up, I was always getting into everything due to me having such an adventurous personality. I would constantly experiment with different projects and try tackling new skills. This has helped me develop an array of talents that I am able to use everyday with the ability to confidently try new things. I was born in Los Angeles, CA and nearly halfway through elementary school, my family moved to Memphis, TN. This is the place that I actually started realizing my ability to make art through the encouragement of family, friends and teachers. After high school, I attended the University of Tennessee, entering as a Computer Science major. I actually didn’t have an idea of what I wanted to do as a career for the rest of my life so I ended up changing majors to Graphic Design, then to Advertising. Reaching my last semester, I realized that I wanted to make a way to where I could make my own hours and have a career doing the things I could get lost in. That is where Beach Multimedia originated, although it’s always been something without a name.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been as smooth as riding down the streets of Atlanta. Although I will not go into detail about many of the struggles I have had to endure, many obstacles that I’ve overcome have shaped my life and the choices that I’ve made thus far. I always say everything happens for a reason and what you are going through has a valuable lesson that you can take away from it. Until you find what it is that you need to learn from that lesson, it will continue to happen. These challenges that I’ve faced have pushed me in the direction of making something out of nothing regularly and I love it.
Please tell us about Beach Multimedia.
My business is BEACH Multimedia. We are a media company based in Atlanta that provides services to individuals seeking custom creative works, including fine art, digital art, animation, video production and more. I work with many applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects to name a few. I have created a wide range of art, cover art, video productions and company branding. I am most proud of being able to express myself through art and music while bringing someone’s idea to life. I am able to work on my own personal projects and have no limitations on what I can do. While the arts industry is highly occupied, what I feel like separates me from others is that my art ability spans across many subject areas and my expertise is not defined by one specialty. I push to make new marks each day, so you can say I specialize in the way I seek knowledge about different projects or skills and am able to pick up on them and ultimately master it.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I don’t necessarily have a favorite memory, but a collection of memories throughout my life when everything was carefree and I would just enjoy having fun with my brothers. Traveling to different cities with my brothers are also memories that I will keep with me. We all currently reside in different states so these days we have to find time where we can plan something, but regardless of what we do we have the best of times. We’re very competitive so we might find more competitive activities to do, whether it’s sports, hiking, rock climbing, or creating something. So, even though I miss being able to wake up and be able to be surrounded by my brothers and make memories, I try to extend that love to all the people that I surround myself with and meet throughout my life.
