Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Foster.
Joshua, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got my start early at two years old playing drums in church. Guided by my father, I continued playing drums starting my local club gigs at 12 years old. Doing my first major live recording with my father and his group Nero Foster & Communion.
I began reading music in middle school and continued to further my knowledge about drums as a whole throughout my high-school career.
After high school, I attended Berklee College of Music and graduated class of “18 where I gained great knowledge from world-renowned professors and amazing musicians I could call my peers.
Upon graduating Berklee, I have had the pleasure of playing for many household names such as
Tyler Perry
TamelaMann
David Mann
Jacquees
Chantae Cann
Lyric Rachae
Cameo
Erykah Badu
Devin the Dude
Carlton Thomas
Snoop Dogg
Lil Duval
Eric Benet
Tamar Braxton
Twista
Marsha Ambrosius
Musiq Soulchild
Kim Burrell
To name a few.
Most recently I had the honor to hold the drum chair for The Madea Farewell Play Tour Jan-May “19 starring Tyler Perry, David and Tamela Mann, Cassi Davis legends in the industry that were a great part of my childhood.
I am currently the Musical Director and drummer for amazing artists Chantae Cann, Jacquees, and Lyric Rachae.
I am forever grateful to God for all the opportunities I’ve had the privilege of doing that started at such a young age with a God-given talent I will never take the credit for but own, appreciate, and love that I was chosen to accomplish all that I have.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth ride. But I wouldn’t trade the route I’ve had to take at all.
Being a dreamer comes with a lot of struggles day to day. Doubt, worry, and fear have been the biggest motivators of my career. I live a life of faith period.
There have been times when I had no clue how I’d make my living and a good one with no solid job. One big thing I was concerned about was making the move to Atlanta after Berklee.
The key to my success has been having a goal. Visualizing the goal, writing it down then making the necessary steps to accomplish that goal.
I truly believe everything that I have done has not been by happenstance but by the manifestation of my faith, passion, and love for music. There’s still so much more to accomplish but to know that when you have a vision and make sure you do all of what is necessary. You reach your goal.
