Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Schiffer and Doug Chanco.
Doug and Josh met in jail as opponents, Doug for the State and Josh for the accused. Over the next few years, they continued to fight… beyond how most attorney’s fight. Fast forward a few years and as they were both already running solo firms, they decided that since they fought so well they should just team up and harness that power for mutual clients. That combination worked.
Ten years later they run a bespoke and high-service firm for Atlanta (and Georgia’s) best people. From millionaires with personal legal issues through homeless addicts who have been abused by the State, Doug and Josh fight for their folks. And keep fighting. Even when it looks impossible you can forge a win with enough effort and attention.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all The first summer, we were together our wives were both hospitalized with serious pregnancy-related issues and basically one of the two of them as absent for the first 6 months of running the firm together. We had to skip a paycheck or two in order to make the bills, and we are proud to have operated the firm debt free since the end of the first year. That means we run a tight ship.
We have also “messed with the formula”a couple of times by trying to expand by bringing the wrong folks in. That was a huge failure, twice. Growth was hurting our results, and our name, so we dealt with the issues and returned to what works. Growth also just hurts. Its great, but it hurts when you loosen the grip on a baby like your own company. And that’s hard.
