Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Walker.
Joshua, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I never thought that hobbies that I really didn’t care about would make such a humongous impact! I truly believe that everyone has hidden talents that are just waiting to be manifested! Growing up, modeling, or even just the thought of fully spreading my creativity didn’t really occur. I felt that I was the type of person to have the creativity to display but I rather do work behind the scenes and not be seen. One thing I’ve seen first hand this year is that God knows when it’s your time to be seen! Modeling never occurred to me seriously until I attended Jackson State University and joined the Insatiable Modeling Squad. IMS gave me a brand new insight on networking, self-expression, self-confidence and overall creative flow. I used those tools given from my past presidents, Trae and Breann, and decided to branch out on my own. While giving back to the high school I came from, Jim Hill High School, I begin to work with exceptional scholars from Wingfield High School in Jackson, MS.
After three amazing, sold-out shows with the ELITE Modeling Squad, I then went to Murrah High School to the SUPREME Modeling Squad and served time there. All those instances grew me into becoming a wiser and more ambitious leader for the youth within my community. Expanding my creativity, I begin to make T-Shirts. Learning from Markeith Selmon (Intelligent Creations), I begin to take off with making shirts. I gathered all my creativity and selflessly expressed them through intricate designs, various patterns and bold colors. With that coming in to play, my business have thrived into a five figure business in just a little under six months! Everything is a lesson and through that lesson, it’s up to you to receive the blessing in it!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I personally feel if the road is smooth, it isn’t worth traveling. Knowing that you’ve overcome drastic obstacles to reach the potential goal you’ve had in mind is a tremendous feeling and makes the overwhelming journey one to remember and cherish forever! Several obstacles have occurred during this journey! Things such as fund loss, machinery damage, etc. have occurred. I’ve always learned to trust my instinct and think positively, regardless of the situations/ circumstances. Sometimes, when everything seems to be tumbling down, the positivity you need is somewhere ahead. Although the road hasn’t always been smooth sailing, I’ve always pushed forward and seen the task through.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about JW Iconic – what should we know?
JW Iconic is an iconic business that befits everyone. It includes Custom T-Shirt Printing, Model/Runway Coaching and Fashion/Event Productions. I feel like I’m personally known for my flare that I have. I really feel that I’m set apart because, honestly, I have the mindset that everyday it’s just me vs. me. When you don’t acknowledge competition, you have peace with knowing you can only be better than you were the previous day before. A lot of people know me for my passionate drive and the way I express myself creatively. One thing that has made me proud is seeing the impact I have on people and the positive impact I receive from them! Knowing that I can make someone smile, someone’s day brighter and someone’s life a little better means the world to me! I live on three factors: Inspire, Impact and Influence. Seeing those three things come into fruition proves to me that I’m doing the right thing and that the circumstances can not overpower a conqueror.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Humbleness! Pride definitely goes before destruction and I’ve seen it time after time. One thing I never like to receive is recognition. I let God see my works and bless me that way. I never want anyone to feel that I’ve made things happen, or I’ve done things on my own! Without the help of God and a praying family, none of this would ever be possible.
