Today we’d like to introduce you to Amia West.
Amia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After getting out of a very toxic marriage, God gave me a vision of myself “owning” my newfound independence as a single mom. I quickly realized that the hardships we experience in life can not only make us wiser but also have the potential to help others in similar situations. Years ago, I felt a prompting in my spirit to create my own retail business. After experiencing a failed relationship, years of rebuilding, reestablishing my self-worth and beginning to really understand who and what God created me to be, I began to craft a design for Journey and Jackson Boutique.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has certainly NOT been a smooth road by far. One of my biggest struggles along that way has been being afraid. I had to surrender those fears and move out of my own way. I realized that to get the business to where it needed to be, I had to get out of my comfort zone. With that came a lot of imperative decision making, sacrifices, time commitments.
Journey and Jackson Boutique – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Journey and Jackson Boutiques is an online Christian apparel company that caters to moms (especially single moms) and children. I wanted to create a shopping experience that would help women to embrace and be proud of who they are and not be ashamed of or embarrassed by their circumstances.
It makes me most proud to know that I am able to sell products that inspire others while giving glory to God. I am also very proud of the fact that my son has been very instrumental in this process and is getting involved behind the scenes by selecting items for children.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as living in my purpose and successfully doing everything that I was created to do.
