Meet Jovan Myrick of Print Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jovan Myrick.

Jovan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started while attending Georgia Southern University in 1998 located in Statesboro, Ga. While attending college in rural Statesboro which is mostly farmland excluding the actual campus, me and other classmates where always looking for something to do after class. So we formed a promotional group (didn’t know how to file for an LLC at the time) to promote house parties around campus for regular students and fraternities. I was already familiar with working on PCs so I was elected to do all the graphic work on the flyers, tickets and any other form of print materials we needed. As more students called on us to plan their events, the greater our skills got on planning and throwing bigger and bigger events til we reached a point where we were bringing in big time celebrities to the campus which brought in even bigger clients and more celebrities. My association with companies and celebrities got me into broadcast radio at WATB 1420AM were I produced a show called 2hot4radio and later incorporated the name. With 2hot4radio I would continue the promotional/advertising company, produce a movie called “snow on the bluff” and sponsor open mic events around Atlanta for up and coming artists. At the time, I didn’t know it but the promo business was nurturing a market for the print business which is still running til this day. One happy client would tell another and the one thing they would always ask about is who printed the marketing material and I would respond it was done all in house. Well this continued for a few years til I was having lunch with a friend of mine at the office and we were looking over the invoices and notice that the bulk of the company’s revenue was print. So after a little research and some preparation I incorporated “Print Atlanta” as a separate entity. We’ve been up and running for the past 5 years with steady increase in sales every year.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe no business is a smooth ride. Without fixing problems or some stress how can a business grow or increase its brand value. One situation that almost had me close the doors is when I had to shut down my office operations. I was leasing a printer with an extremely high interest rate which led me to fall behind on other cost. I had to shut down the office but the phone calls for business never stop coming. So I kept taking orders and making my own deliveries dropping off client’s products personally saving money in shipping and courier cost while still handling business. I was able to get back on track and keep going.
