Meet Jovoanda Reed of Classy Lynne Travels in Savannah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jovoanda Reed.

Jovoanda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always had a true passion for traveling. I enjoy visiting new destinations with my family and friends, sharing new experiences and making extraordinary memories. At times I found myself coming home from a destination thinking, “Where can we go to next?” In 2008, I became unemployed. Unsure about my next job or which route I will take. Before the passing of my niece’s Teinique, I was often asked by her “to start up my own traveling business.” Ten years later, I decided to branch out and start my own independent travel agency. I choose the name Classy Lynne Travels to give my clients “Classy” experience’s during each trip. “Lynne” was the middle name of my niece who passed away.

In 2018, I was invited to a presentation that gave me valuable information and insight into becoming a travel adviser. From that day, I studied every day after coming home from my full-time job and became a Certified Independent Travel Agent. The most important duties of being a travel adviser is booking accommodations, car rentals, flights, cruises, buses and tours, having direct inventory for many accommodations and travel arrangements and giving clients options that could have been missed by searching for themselves online.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to becoming an independent travel agent has not always been easy. You don’t become one because you pay someone a fee. You also don’t become a travel agent online just because you have a laptop at home and sign a form with some company, who says you can afford sale travel. Being a travel agent is hard work, long hours, and frequently low pay. The disadvantages of becoming an independent travel agent are the uncertain market and relocation. You can deal with an unexpected situation like when customers come to you with a meager budget and a high expectation.

We’d love to hear more about your company.

What were you like growing up?
Born in Savannah, Georgia to Nathaniel & Rebecca Freeman. Being the only girl, along with my two oldest brothers. I could say that I always was the adventures child. During the younger stages of my life, I took dancing classes, became a cheerleader and also did some modeling. Where I always dreamed of relaxing somewhere quiet and secluded, in the Caribbean or across the ocean to Europe. Sometimes also seeing the monuments in our wonderful United States. I grow up in a household where we took summer, spring, fall trips to different locations each year. So traveling has always one of my true passions since growing up.
