Meet Joy Mock of M&M Therapy Solutions in Gwinnett County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Mock.

Joy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a licensed professional counselor. I work in a practice called Jydes Family Clinic where I provide individual and family therapy for a wide array of clients with varied ages and diagnoses. I am passionate about my job and I wanted to expand my practice to include helping other therapists with psychoeducation and meeting their continuing education requirements for licensure by the state of Georgia. This passion led me to begin Meaningful and Motivational Therapy Solutions, dba M&M Therapy Solutions in February 2016, since then I have presented almost 2 dozen seminar to colleagues and I have more seminars in various stages of the planning process. My focus for this first seminar is on strategies for working with children and adolescents. This population can often be difficult to engage in the therapeutic process. Over the years, I have worked hard to develop some creative strategies that work and I share them in my seminars. I follow the Steve Jobs definition of creativity. He is quoted as saying “Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while.” With this definition in mind, I also urge my seminar attendees to think outside the box to create theory-driven strategies and interventions that capture their young client’s attention. It’s just the best way to spend a day, sharing and learning with other LPC’s!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. For one thing, I have had two different partners. They were both great, but left the business after a while to pursue different goals. So now I am going solo and enjoying it, but it has been an adjustment. Setting up the business with the state, getting approval from our LPC licensing agency, and just the logistics, advertising, etc. were all time consuming and often trial and error. Despite the challenges, I have learned so much though and it has been a real growth process for me personally and professionally.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about M&M Therapy Solutions – what should we know?
We specialize in psychotherapy education for licensed professionals. We make the best in our field even better by introducing them to new tools and strategies to keep their practices fresh and effective. Believe me, I have been to my fair share of boring, ineffective trainings. What sets us apart is our goal of making our seminars fun, interactive, and full of practical, hands-on information from beginning to end.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe the old saying that “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” I work hard to make our seminars comfortable and engaging. I want our seminar attendees to know that I really appreciate them choosing my seminars. They have many choices and I consider it an honor that they chose to spend their day of learning with M & M Therapy Solutions. I try to go the extra mile by providing snacks, water, coffee, and giving out small prizes throughout the day. My goal is that everyone who attends my seminar will leave saying that it was the most positive and practical seminar they have attended.

Pricing:

  • Our seminars offer 6.5 CE hours for 75.00. They are very reasonably priced. Since I am a therapist too, I always want to give my colleagues a good value.

    Hi Joy,
First of all, congratulations on your recent accomplishments! So proud of you!
Joy, I am in need of counseling for my daughter, Elizabeth. Are you in a group with a psychiatrist should medication be necessary? She has severe anxiety issues and has taken zanax in the past. We live in Lawrenceville. Thanks so much, Joy.
