Today we’d like to introduce you to Joyce Jade.
Joyce, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
So my story begins in Kalamazoo, MI, which is where I’m originally from. I moved to Georgia in 2008 and four years later, the School of Glamology emerged. The will to create this company came from being an entrepreneur for many years and wanting to find a way to give back. The School of Glamology focuses on teaching entrepreneurship through advanced beauty techniques. We teach our students the technique of their choice but we also show them how to build their business and clientele.
The essentials that are included in my courses are all things that I had to learn on my own. I have been in the beauty industry since I landed in Georgia as a makeup artist. I have walked away from it several times because I was trying to discover a career path that was fulfilling for me. Doing someone’s makeup and making them feel good for a moment was ok but it wasn’t enough. Being able to provide my students with a way to make their life better for themselves and their families is something that keeps me smiling every day. I started the school and was teaching all the courses myself and then decided to bring on team members. Since then, we have offered courses in all 50 states and have traveled to five countries with our classes. We are nationally recognized for courses like Classic Eyelash Extension and Microblading Training. For years we have only offered training in advanced techniques but in the next year or so, we will be offering and esthetics and cosmetology program. The future of this company is really bright!
Has it been a smooth road?
The road I’ve had to travel has not been smooth and my biggest struggle was trying to balance family and work. Because I’m so passionate about building my brand and spreading the knowledge, I found myself working day in and day out. Even now, years later, I still carry that same passion as I did the day I figured to that this was my calling. I have to force myself to just relax and enjoy my family. The School of Glamology is a major part of my of life and my legacy.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with School of Glamology – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Again the School of Glamology teaches entrepreneurship through advanced beauty techniques. The main course that we offer is the classic eyelash extension certification, which teaches our students how to safely apply, one extension to one natural lash. Not only do we teach our students the technique, but we also teach them how to establish their business and to build clientele. There are a lot of courses on the market that are long and drawn out and also offered by people who aren’t even licensed cosmetologists or estheticians. We are a real school, offering real training and we provide a certificate that is nationally recognized for training.
Thinking from a consumer standpoint, I would always ask myself, why should someone choose my company to train with over the other. My response to this question includes several reasons. The School of Glamology is female-owned and operated and I have been in the shoes of many of the women who are just looking for a way to make a better life for their children. We offer courses that are affordable and comes with a mentor that never expires. That way, if you have any questions after training, you will have help available to you. We could easily drag it out for 2–3 days just to get more money out of our students, but we choose to keep our pricing affordable and our basic course is completed in one day to make it convenient for our students.
On top of those amazing things, we cater to all four learning styles within our training. For our auditory learners, the theory portion of the training is completed through lectures. For our visual learners, we incorporate live or video demonstrations on the methods that are taught. For our kinesthetic learners, we incorporate hands-on practice and assignments to be completed during the course. For the reading and writers in class, reading materials are provided and notes are allowed to be taken throughout the training. All of these methods are used in every course. While some training courses allow you to go through training once, all of our students are allowed to repeat a course FREE OF CHARGE if needed!
We offer free refresher courses as well to previous students because, more than anything, I understand how life happens. Some people are forced to put their businesses on the backburner and feel lost when it’s time to pick it back up. Because we want everyone to be successful, we will be there to help along the way. The School of Glamology is extremely accommodating when it comes to getting our students trained and we have really gone through some great lengths to ensure that everyone who wants to be trained, gets trained. We will continue to practice that by bringing our courses to any city that is requested and if we can’t come to you, there is always the option of doing the course online with a live instructor.
I could really go on and on about why we are number one in training but I’d like for people to see for themselves. The future of the School of Glamology is really bright and big. I have met some beautiful women with so much fight in them, which makes me just want to continue to show others a way to be great. I’m proud of the rapid growth we have seen over the years. However, I’m also receptive to the hurdles I continuously have to jump over. To sum it all up, I look forward to the future, traveling down the road this journey takes me.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about Atlanta is the fact that this city allows an entrepreneur to really flourish. If you come here focused and you have that grind in you, there is no way that you can fail. I’ve had my ups and downs here, good moments and bad but I wouldn’t trade calling this place home for nothing.
