Today we’d like to introduce you to JP Penland.
JP, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey started ten years ago in 2010, when I went to school to earn my Welding certification in Kentucky. Once I graduated, I came back home to Buford, GA and got my first welding job at Kubota. I was the youngest welder there. From there, I was able to continue working on mastering my craft. It even allowed me to get my name out there and start my business, JP Welding, LLC. It also had led me to be able to pass my love for my trade to the students at Fortis College as the Welding Program Director.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There struggles along the way. People don’t realize the amount of effort that is necessary to get to where you want to be. There are sacrifices to be made. I worked 12-hour shifts each day. My family, friends, free time all of that had to be put on pause or at least scheduled in advance to really be able to see them. When you are working towards your dreams and goals, those types of things I won’t say get put to the side, but they do get more difficult to prioritize. My goal has always been to provide. I want to be able to do that for them as well as myself.
Please tell us about your company.
JP Welding is my pride and joy. I get to live out my dreams with this company. I specialize in all different types of welding, from making custom furniture and decor to working on semi-trucks and custom welds for restaurants. I have pictures if necessary. What sets me apart is that I love what I do and I am going to do my best to get the results my client is looking for because what I do is an art. It is also a collaborative effort. I work with my clients to give my expertise while also reaching the goal they set out to accomplish with my assistance. I also work extremely hard to help the students in my welding program to get jobs that they are proud of and that they can provide for their families.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Continue to build my company up and to help others utilize welding to the best of their abilities.
