Meet Judy Rossi of Woodstock Pelvic Health

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Rossi.

Hi Judy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been a physical therapist for over 30 years. For the majority of my career, I specialized in orthopedics until about 8 years ago, I started specializing in pelvic health. I had my own pelvic health condition that was ultimately solved through pelvic floor physical therapy. This is what inspired me to pursue advanced education in pelvic health. Through a year long certification program, I was awarded the title of pelvic health specialist. At the same time, I obtained by transitional doctorate in physical therapy. Combined with many more continuing education courses I have taken since then, I feel very prepared to treat any pelvic health condition. With my background in orthopedics and now pelvic health, I am able to evaluate and treat the whole person and enjoy providing a holistic approach to healing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My own pelvic health condition was a huge struggle which I now view as a blessing in disguise as I never would have pursued pelvic health as a specialty without having gone through that. Fortunately, I was able to fully overcome it. I started my own pelvic health practice, Woodstock Pelvic Health in 2022 which was a bit scary to do completely on my own. In the past, I was part owner in an out patient orthopedic practice until selling it in 2019. During that time, my silent partner made lots of the business decisions. Now, all the decisions are my own. Although sometimes a struggle, I have learned to trust my intuitions and business sense. Fortunately, my business is doing very well, having helped over 800 people so far.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in treating all types of pelvic floor dysfunction in both men and women. The conditions I treat are urinary and fecal incontinence, interstitial cystitis (also know as painful bladder syndrome), urinary frequency and urgency, overactive bladder, chronic constipation, and pelvic pain syndromes resulting in pain with intimacy and the symptoms of endometriosis. I also treat other issues that often coexist with these problems including low back pain, hip pain as well as any other orthopedic condition. In addition, I work with pregnant women to better prepare them for birth via targeted exercises, perineal stretching and treating pelvic girdle pain that often occurs during pregnancy. I also work with women in the postpartum phase to help them safely return to the activities they enjoy while addressing common postpartum issues like urinary leakage and pelvic organ prolapse.

One of the things that I added to my practice a year ago was Softwave technology which has proven to be a gamechanger in the world of pelvic health. I use it to treat pain in all regions of the body, reduce leakage and to treat endometrial pain. I am the only provider in my region with this technology. Softwave uses acoustic shockwaves delivered through the skin to the targeted area. These waves interact with tissues in several ways. They increase blood flow and circulation to the affected area, helping deliver oxygen and nutrients and supporting tissue repair. The shockwaves reduce inflammation, stimulate cellular repair and stem cell production, encouraging the natural healing process. They modulate pain receptors and nerve activity which reduce the sensation of pain. They break down scar tissue or adhesions in some soft tissues. I have discovered that patients receiving Softwave treatment are getting better exponentially faster!

Another treatment I specialize in is dry needling which is great for relieving the pain from myofascial trigger points in the muscle. In layman’s terms, it treats “knots” in the muscles.

How do you think about happiness?
Seeing my patients get better and back to a life that they enjoy. When this happens, it is extremely personally rewarding. Spending time with my husband Matt, my three adult sons, three adult stepsons and their families also brings me deep joy. Family is important to me and I prioritize it in my life.
