Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Bearden Carver and Lauren Christen Friday.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Moving home to Georgia after living and working in New York City, playing for equity theatre auditions and working on Broadway, to take an academic position in Musical Theatre I noticed there were a lot of great programs, but they were missing the mark when it came to college auditions. I set out to create a service for consulting and coaching performers who would be preparing for various auditions. My goal was to provide experience, expertise and exposure while equipping them with the skills and confidence necessary for every opportunity that would come their way. I have watched my nephew participate in travel ball, recruited to the navel academy, and scouted to the Braves. I wanted to provide the same access to academic recruitment professional opportunities for young performers. When I went looking for a business partner to help accomplish these goals, I contacted a former student (Lauren Christen Friday) with a BFA Musical Theatre degree who is driven and understood my goals.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle in what we do is convincing parents that musical theatre is a worthwhile career and convincing the students that they need more in depth training in order to get ahead. The truth is, auditioning is a game and every game has many different variables. We meet students where they are and offer individualized experiences based on the members’ unique skills while identifying and strengthening their weaknesses.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Callback Company – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We offer cabarets, coachings, Intensives, Broadway masterclasses, workshops, seminars, mock (practice) audition classes and showcases both locally and in New York City. We also have a college concierge program to assist high school students who are seeking to pursue a degree in musical theatre. We help guide them through the entire process from submitting their application to scholarship opportunities. We are most proud of the level of increased confidence that we see in our clientele of all ages as well as being a part of our college concierge members’ acceptances into some of the best performing arts programs in the country.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love Atlanta’s cultural diversity as well its uprising artistic community. Atlanta is quickly becoming one of the major art hubs in the country.
We dislike how spread out it is. Creates tons of traffic but we use it to our advantage. We place events wherever our clients are. If there is a need, we will it regardless of location.
