Today we’d like to introduce you to Julius Robinson.
Julius grew up playing tennis in the public parks of southwest Atlanta, GA. His very first job was teaching the game to inner-city kids for the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation at the age of 16. Afterwards, Julius became a tennis instructor for the South Atlanta Community Tennis Association, played varsity tennis for Morehouse College and served as Assistant Coach for the Tri-Cities High School tennis team.
During his career in the corporate world, Julius directed corporate tournaments for Verizon Wireless and served as chairman of the Shakerag Farms Tennis Association. After working as an independent pro, he coached teams for Tennis Kids and Teens, Inc. and Double Aces, Inc., where he led his Autrey Mill Middle School team to a 2011 season championship.
Julius founded Atlanta Tennis Coach, LLC in 2011; which directs on-site after-school 10 and Under Tennis programs for Fulton County elementary schools. He is also the Director of Junior Programs for The Falls of Autry Mill Tennis Club in Alpharetta, GA. Since the summer of 2014, his 8U USTA teams have reached the City Championship 8 times; winning it 5 times.
His past work includes serving as a Tennis Professional for Silvia Tennis Academy @ Seven Oaks, Midtown Athletic Club @ Windy Hill and the Carl E. Sanders Family YMCA @ Buckhead. Julius has had tennis tips published by the USPTA and holds MTM and USPTA teaching certifications.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My first obstacle was my career change from the IT world to the tennis world. I make half as much money as I used to, but I look forward to getting to the office every day. My biggest daily challenge is getting the most out of my students while never losing sight of the fact that tennis is, above all, supposed to be fun.
