Meet Justin Chamberland of JP Scalpworx in Sandy Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Chamberland.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I first became interested in scalp micropigmentation (SMP) in 2014 while researching solutions for my rapid balding. Unsatisfied with the unpredictability and high cost of hair transplants, I found an article about SMP procedures and became very intrigued. Frustrated after years of using scalp concealing and hair thickening products, I decided that SMP would provide the immediate and low-maintenance results I was seeking. My procedure was performed in January of 2015, and my only regret is that I didn’t have it done sooner.

I previously worked as an Air Traffic Controller with the FAA, a job requiring incredible attention to detail which I feel now transfers to my SMP work. The transformation that occurs for both men and women in a matter of hours really fulfills me as an SMP artist. I’m passionate about my work and I’m well aware of how frustrating hair loss can be.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wasn’t easy getting started in the SMP industry. I invested quite a bit in a franchise that promised many things but failed to deliver. I decided to separate from this business model and go out on my own. I knew I had the work ethic to be successful, but many uncertainties led to more than a few anxious times. SMP was not well known, and still isn’t. I ended up knocking on doors and trying to make as many connections as possible in the community. A few of these relationships really took off and helped propel me to where I am today. I’m grateful and humbled by my success and I believe listening closely to my customers and providing a high level of customer service is critical to my continued success; I never want to take anything for granted.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with JP Scalpworx – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
JP Scalpworx specializes in scalp micropigmentation (SMP) which is a non-surgical hair loss treatment. This innovative solution involves applying pigment to the scalp via tattooing methods to replicate thousands of hair follicles, creating the illusion of a full head of hair. Typically completed in 1 to 2 sessions, SMP is an affordable long-term hair loss solution that provides undetectable, instant and maintenance-free results. SMP is most popular with men seeking a buzz cut procedure, but we have seen rapid growth from both men and women looking to densify longer hair. Many SMP providers use multi-session methods, which means that each session adds more and more density to your scalp. I take a different approach. I restore the hair to the proper density the first time I meet with a client, then after a month, I like to schedule a brief follow up to see if any areas need retouching. This gives clients immediate results without having to come back for multiple sessions.

Pricing:

  • The majority of procedures range between $1,200 and $3,800
