Meet Justin Oliverio of The Millar Law Firm in Jonesboro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Oliverio.

Justin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m celebrating my 10th Anniversary of passing the bar exam in October 2020. What a long, fun, strange, and demanding voyage it has been!

Before I was ten years old, I begrudgingly accepted the fact that I could not play sports for a living. Better to accept that reality sooner rather than later, I suppose. The next best option seemed to be suing people. I loved Law & Order, Hunter, Night Court and other TV shows that featured courtroom drama, cops, criminals, and lawyers as a kid. My grandfather loved Matlock. And the family that watched me when my Mom had to work on nights and weekends loved People’s Court. Maybe it was the TV persuading me. Maybe it was destiny. But there really is not anything else I can see myself doing with my life other than being a lawyer.

I watched my Mom work incredibly hard, at home and at work, to raise me and my sister. Having her as a mentor and role model has been invaluable as I chased (and am now living) my dream of being a lawyer and helping people through difficult times.

I started my career representing people and small business owners against creditors, banks, and credit card companies. In March of 2018, my office landlord asked me to help with a handful of personal injury cases after his associate resigned. I really enjoyed helping people fight insurance companies, and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to join the Millar Law Firm in August of 2019. Now, I get to work with a team of kind, caring and experienced attorneys and teammates who have taught me about the science and art of being a successful personal injury attorney.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Before my first day of law school, a seasoned and experienced attorney once told me “The Law is a jealous mistress.” To be honest, his comment kind of irked me.  I had just graduated college, and I was working as a secretary at a small law firm near Emory & Henry near the state line of Virginia and Tennessee. My boss sent me to another attorney’s office on an errand, and I couldn’t contain the fact that I had just gotten accepted into law school. I was ecstatic. His comment sounded so bitter and negative. But, it turned out he was 100% correct. Nothing about becoming or being a lawyer is easy. It’s time and life-consuming. It’s stressful. But, it can also be tons of fun and immensely rewarding. Every day, I have the opportunity to help and counsel people who are going one of the worst times of their life. I’m fortunate to have a career that I love and that pushes me to keep learning how to be a better lawyer, advocate, counselor, and person.
