Meet K. Brat

Today we’d like to introduce you to K. Brat.

K.Brat is a rap artist and songwriter. A native of Central Park located on the west side of Birmingham, Alabama. K.Brat has been writing music since she was seven years old and decided to pursue her career in music at the age of twenty after suffering a life-threatening miscarriage. Looking for a way to vent while suffering with depression she turned to music as a rap artist. She originally always wanted to pursue a career as an R&B singer but after high school went to college as a nursing major. In January of 2020, she dropped her first music video remixing Hitmaka’s “Thot Box” which showcased her lyrical abilities and her captivating demeanor. She then followed up with her song “Pretty Bitch Anthem” featuring Lady E, which started circulating amongst clubs in Birmingham. In September 2020, she signed her first management deal with D.A.M.N Ent, an Atlanta and Birmingham-based Entertainment company. With the help of her team, K.Brat has been able to push the envelope around the state of Alabama and gain a fan base in her hometown of Birmingham. K.Brat has performed at events for names such Rubberband OG, Bigga Rankin, and Bankroll Freddie. K.Brat has grown the likes of DJs such as DJ J Dolla, DJ Cuzzo, DJ Savage, DJ Zeech, and more. She’s inspired by artists such as Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Trina, and Lil Wayne. If you ask her who she aspires to be like she’ll simply respond, “I aspire to only be like myself, nothing more, nothing less.”

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
In 2019 K.Brat only a sophomore in college found out she was pregnant, keeping this secret away from her family she continued to attend college. Without a car she would walk two blocks while being two months pregnant everyday to class. In September due to stress from an incident on campus, she miscarried. This drove her into deep depression and even suicidal. Using rap as a way to vent, she began to claim her new identity from Makaila to K.Brat. Although rapping had its perks, she found herself in the middle of controversy with another local artist within the city making it hard to rise above the odds stacked against her.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a female artist that raps. I am known in Birmingham as the freestyle queen. I’m proud of being nominated at the Alabama music awards and for being the only female in the biggest cypher of the year. I dare to be different and I make music for not just black women but young men as well. I’m different from others because I decided at the drop of hat to rap and have decided that I’m going to allow God to use my talents to touch and help others just like me.

What’s next?
I plan on dropping my very tape soon. I look forward to signing a distribution deal and or a deal with CMG.
