Meet Kaamel Lewis (Shotsbymel)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaamel Lewis (Shotsbymel)

Kaamel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began taking photos in 2017, right before my first year at Valdosta State University. Searching for something I was naturally talented in drew me to photography. When I purchased my first camera and did my first photoshoot, I recall thinking to myself, ‘Wow, I think this might be my calling.’

Taking photos is second nature to me. It’s sort of like athletes having God-given talents. Photography is MY thing. It’s my element. I do myself proud every time I see my work. I fell in love with the art of photography. I knew photography was for me the moment I realized how much joy that it brings into people’s lives. To some, photography may seem like a basic concept of just taking pictures of people or even buildings or products, But to me, photography is deeper than that, photography is an art of capturing the beauty that people can not see in themselves that I am able to bring out of them.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Entrepreneurship is never a smooth road. It requires much investment and a lot of free content/work just to create a name for yourself. The hardest part to me was developing my own style. I still face struggles with this and constantly search for ways to distinguish my photos from other photographers. I want people to automatically know that it was shot by Mel.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Shotsbymel is about capturing the best moments of life. I want to take a picture that is so attractive to the eye that viewers feel the photo. What I love about photography the most is that A photo takes a moment that has passed and then becomes a memory that you can relive forever.

The proudest moment of my career would be the very first time I saw my work in an art gala, seeing my work blown up on canvas was so surreal to me, looking at the work you create is always a good feeling. I specialize in studio, wedding, graduation, birthday, family portraits, and event photography.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I was never one to believe in luck, I serve an amazing God who continues to pour blessings into my life and I am forever thankful.
