Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaché Garcia.
Hi Kaché, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I had the honor and privilege of growing up surrounded by various cultures which opened up so many opportunities for learning and curiosity for me. When I first moved to the South, what I heard the most in my new city was that there wasn’t anything to do here-that you had to travel fully into Atlanta to do anything fun. I chose to be the change I wanted to see in my community and provide unique experiences where people can find “their thing” through the arts, culture and getting their bodies moving! We started at two events a month and we now average five to seven, depending on the size of each experience. I love to collaborate with local businesses to bring them visibility and help bridge the gaps between what I hear all of the time: “I’ve never heard of this place!” and, “I wish there were more venues outside of just this one popular event space.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has most assuredly not been a smooth road! Between building a network, learning about the various tools for marketing, securing locations for events, and more. It takes time to show people they can trust my organization to have integrity, fair pricing and a good time and, at times, I’ve wanted to rush that process along because I just want everyone to join in on the fun. Some things-especially when it comes to tech stuff-takes me longer to accomplish and being the sole person doing it all can certainly be taxing at times.
As you know, we’re big fans of Evolve Community Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Evolve Community Events, we curate experiences throughout the city that celebrate what the mind and body can do; how we can expand, grow, learn, and Evolve by staying curious about ourselves and the world around us. We’re known for our laughter, partnering with small and local businesses and promoting the practice of being in community with each other to share ideas, hopes, dreams, goals, struggles, concerns, and more. Our speciality is not doing anything in a “typical” way or, as I always say it, “with a twist!” For example, we’ll do paint and sip, but it’ll be mocktails and tye-dyeing shirts; we’ll teach a Latin dance class and add local Latin vendors and a DJ to do food, beverage and goods; we’ll teach beginner crochet, but surprise everyone by doing a huge giveaway of supplies and yarn at the end, and each time we learn and laugh more than the last. We’re unique in several ways, including that we don’t take on clients in a traditional way: we curate on a build it and they will come approach that includes community surveys, follow up questions and simply asking around for what people are looking for; we don’t offer birthday, bar/bat mitzvah, baby shower, or wedding services. You’ll also notice I use “we” often and I do that intentionally to show appreciation for the connections I’ve built along the way. This whole community has come together to make events happen on various levels and so even though I’m the CEO, founder, do-er of all the things, it definitely still takes a village to thrive and I’m absolutely most proud of that!
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Your only job is to show up as your authentic self. Your authentic self is both absolutely enough and exactly what we need. If you’ve ever chosen not to do or experience something because you don’t feel like you’re enough-thin enough, young enough, flexible enough, patient enough, creative enough, etc.-I implore you to choose one thing this year that challenges that belief you have about yourself. Connect with yourselves and each other. Explore the vastness of the world through other cultures. Move your body with care and reverence. See what we can create when we’re in community together.
