Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaela Moore.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kaela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started creating YouTube videos in 2014, mainly through my passion for natural hair and sharing tips for healthy hair.
I always felt like I can show you better than I can tell you. As my tutorials gained views, my YouTube Channel (OKae Kaela) quickly became my brand.
From there, I was inspired to branch off and do other creative videos such as makeup, skincare, Fashion Hauls, and College Lifestyle. YouTube became so much a part of my life that when it was time to attend to college, I was looking to into Broadcast Journalism programs because I knew I wanted to continue to do what I love professionally.
I attend The Illustrious Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, also known as FAMU. I am involved in 3 student medias such as The Saturday Morning Show on WANM 90.5fm The Flava Station in Tallahassee, FL, FAMU’s student ran- Journey magazine, and I write for the Student ran newspaper – The Famuan.
Ultimately I would love to be what I call a beauty journalist/multimedia journalist. I love all things beauty and natural hair and it would be a dream to write, produce, host, etc in the entertainment realm of journalism.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As a YouTuber, things can appear very lavish and easy but its A LOT of work and effort. I started from very humbling beginnings. When I first told my parents I wanted to start a YouTube channel and gave them the list of equipment I wanted for Christmas to help me launch it, they basically was like no. The biggest misconception is you have to have all the high tech equipment to succeed on YouTube but that is far from the truth. I was so passionate and driven to start my channel that I literally used my iPhone5c at the time and a lamp to record my very first video. I also used windows movie maker to edit my first video. For me, it was all about the dedication. I always tell people you have to start somewhere.
I was into making thorough and informative videos that they eventually gained attention and my channel began to grow. My dedication landed me sponsored video deals, various PR packages, and paid promotions. My hard work and determination literally helped me be able to invest in better equipment and expand my brand. I carry this same work ethic and mindset in my college career in hopes of merging the skills I’ve honed from college and YouTube into my dream career as a beauty journalist.
Tell our readers more about what you do, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
OKae Kaela is my YouTube Personality. I wanted something that screamed me but was very clever. My name is Kaela pronounced (Kay-la), so I ultimately I wanted to incorporate the unique spelling somewhere in my stage name.
I specialize in all things beauty, natural hair, fashion, and college lifestyle.
I am most known for my Natural hair tutorials and college vlogs.
I am most proud of the growth on my YouTube Channel in the past two years and the amount of support I have from family and peers.
I want people to appreciate the authenticity and transparency I showcase throughout my YouTube channel and social media outlets. I’m like an open book, what you see is literally me. I’m that relatable young, black, college girl figuring her way out through college and life flaws and all.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
With so much going on in college and me constantly being inspired on a day to day basis, I can’t really say what my exact future plans are. I’m trying to take things one day at a time. One thing for sure, I will continue to work hard and grow my brand and I am excited for all new opportunities God has planned for me.
