Meet Kaitlyn Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Morris.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been very creative and have dabbled in some form of the arts all my life. I never really knew exactly what it was I wanted to pursue career-wise – I’d start something then get tired of it quickly. When I decided on photography and media, it was because I knew I wanted to work in music specifically. I wanted to tell the stories that I wasn’t seeing. I did so much research on what type of gear I’d need and how to use it, how to get into the industry and gain access, then just kept shooting to improve my skills and was always networking. I set goals for myself that I wanted to achieve and wrote them down, I quickly began checking things off the list. I fell in love with it and felt like I’d finally found my thing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started, it was also when all the lockdowns were starting. So wanting to work in music and entertainment media, this was the worst timing because all events and live music were canceled, so I couldn’t do any of the work I wanted to do.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer, creative director and digital creator. I also work in events and production.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’ve never had a designated mentor, but I’ve learned from so many people. Since I first started, more experienced photographers have been so kind and helpful to me, taking me under their wing, referring my work and just giving me pointers and advice.

As far as networking, talk to everyone! Be kind to everyone! Because you just never know who can give you your next opportunity. Look up events pertaining to the industry you want to work in and find out who’s in charge. Reach out to them and find out how you can be a part. Never be afraid to shoot your shot. Always carry business cards and stay connected with the people you meet and be genuine.
