Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalin Cook.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kalin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As I look back over my lifetime I’ve realized that since I was a little kid I’ve had a love for cameras. Even throughout high school, I participated in all of the broadcast production courses. So, when I enrolled at Valdosta State University I chose to major in mass media. My freshman year at VSU I was asked to become a photographer for a modeling troupe. At that point, I had never considered photography or even knew much about it. But, I took on the challenge and from there my love for photography grew. My sophomore year I joined an organization name Media Arts Geniuses (M.A.G.) which also helped me enhance my creative skills of photography & videography.
The last two years of my undergraduate career I grew a reputation for myself with my creative capabilities. I decided to name my brand Ocular Essence Media. I graduated from VSU with a bachelors of Fine Arts in Mass Media in December of 2018. After graduation, I filmed and edited a few promotional ads for different companies in Valdosta and Atlanta, GA. Also, I was still doing photography for friends and family. So, I eventually thought to myself what’s stopping me from becoming an actual business? I did my research and applied for a business certificate. As of July 2019, Ocular Essence Media became a certified business in the state of Georgia.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been far from smooth but it’s a humbling journey that will be later appreciated. The hardest challenge I was facing was in my mind. I had to build up my mental confidence and belief in my capabilities. But, I’ve learned that the road never gets easier. You must adjust to become stronger and smarter to use the road to your advantage. As of now, my business doesn’t have a plethora of clients. However, I know I’m still in the beginning phases of making a name for myself in the city of Atlanta.

Ocular Essence Media is a creative photo and video services business. My focus is on photography and videography to create a long lasting value to any particular moments. I’m known to create content that will visually pleasing to any audience. I’m most proud of filming/editing a video for Nalley Toyota in Lithonia, GA. I plan to continue to work with small to big companies to help create content that will bring more awareness to their purpose. My business is different from others because I ensure an exceptional customer service experience along with creative content that has long lasting value.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is a wonderful place for photographers and videographers. I’m that someone who is just starting out and I would still recommend other people to start here. Atlanta has a thriving culture for creative individuals. It’s a matter of what he/she will do to make a name for themselves.
