Meet Hollywood Cole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hollywood Cole .

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My love for music started when I was young, my parents always played a lot of different music while I was growing up, from oldies like the O’ Jays and Teena Marie to Jay Z, and even classics like John Coltrane and Miles Davis. I started paying attention to music production when I discovered The Neptunes, who are one of my biggest inspirations. I remember being young and being able to recognize whenever a beat was produced by them; they had a distinct sound.

In middle school, I was always known to have the latest music on my MP3 player. I used to make my own ringtones for my phone from songs I’d download on LimeWire. When I got to high school, I started making mix CD’s of all the latest mixtapes back then, Big Sean, Lil Wayne, Drake, etc. I was always the one to go to for CD’s to bump in the whip.

Once I got to college, I became the “Aux DJ” in the car and would always DJ parties my boys and I would throw. I would use an app on my phone to play songs and an app called “Virtual DJ” on my laptop with no turntables. Soon after that one of my boys showed me “FL Studio”, a music production software during my junior year of college and ever since then I’ve been perfecting the craft.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a beautiful struggle as my pops would say. There’s been ups and downs, moving to Atlanta and just trying to make a name for myself, getting my beats into the right hands, connecting with the right people, figuring out how to brand myself better, etc. It’s a struggle everyday, especially as an up and coming producer but I’ve learned to appreciate this time in my life and just keep grinding, constantly working to improve.

Please tell us about Hollywood Cole.
I am a music producer, I started making beats around my junior year in college and have been focused on music full-time ever since. I’m a big fan of sampling but I don’t really specialize in anything specific. I try not to box myself into one genre when making music and just make sure I stay as creative as possible and make anything that I can vibe with. I’d say I’m really most proud of the genuine relationships that I’ve built with people through my music. I’ve met a lot of people solely off having a relationship with someone else so it’s a good feeling to know that I’ve made real connections through this.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I don’t think I would do anything differently, I believe that my journey is my journey. I’m on a path to be great and I understand things will become difficult, but you’ve gotta push forward!
