Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamille Caldwell.
Kamille, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
For a very long time, I thought that my passion was to work in the medical field. I wanted to go to Spelman College to study Human Biology so that I could become a Plastic Surgeon. In my Junior year of high school, I started to make videos for instagram and take pictures of everything that I found pleasing to the eye with my Iphone. The photos that I would capture and edit were breathtakingly beautiful. it Ignited a fire in me that made me want to go harder and share my art with the world. I continued to practice and edit on my phone and laptop. Eventually, my sister let me use her camera to practice with. I had my very first photo shoot with my sister and a few friends and that’s when I knew that this is what I want to do with my life.
This is what makes me happy. This is the industry that I want to flourish in. I want everyone to see how I view the world through my third eye. I’m still learning and growing everyday. I’m always striving to learn more on how to enhance my creativity and express it in different ways. I am now a student at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). My major is Film and television with a minor in Fashion Photography. I’m in work mode right now so that I can come out and astound Atlanta with what I have to offer and collaborate with other artists and photographers. Keep your ears open for my name because you will hear more about me soon.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has not been a smooth one. Not having my own equipment was discouraging and I experienced difficulty with learning how to use editing software, but I never gave up. I can be very indecisive and critical when it comes when it comes to my work. Most of the time, I allow negative thoughts to take over and I start to think that my work isn’t good enough. There were also times when I let likes and comments on instagram determine the value of my work. I am grateful for every obstacle that I’ve faced mentally, physically, and emotionally because it molded me into the artist that I am today. I’m confident in the skills that I have developed but I will always be open to learning everything that I can from other creatives and on my own.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is the Christmas when my big sister got her own Barbie Jeep. That morning we rode up and down the street. I was in the passenger seat, just happy to be there. We’ve been each other’s roll dawgs ever since.
