Today we’d like to introduce you to KaNeesha Caldwell.
KaNeesha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It’s funny because my mom was in the Army but was also a licensed cosmetologist; she was all about hair. Everyone in my family knew how to do hair but me, I wasn’t really interested. It wasn’t until I had my daughter and realized how much hair she had and how much money I refused to spend getting her hair done lol. I started going on YouTube, learning how to do simple styles and learned from there. Eventually, I wanted to learn how to do box braids so I went back to YouTube and recruited a few friends to let me practice on them.
Hard work, persistence and being confident in my skills has gotten me where I am today. As scared as I was to launch everything, a friend of mine told me “If it scares you, that means you’re doing something right,” I took that quote and ran with it. I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m BIG yet but I pray that it’s coming soon. I’m confident that If I keep continuously praying and manifesting what I want, God will make it happen.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing in life comes easy. I do believe that your success comes from the work that you’re willing to put in and the sacrifices you are willing to make to be successful in all things that inspire you. So far, it hasn’t been a tough road but it’s hasn’t been necessarily easy either. I’m a full-time mother and college student, so juggling a business can be a challenge, especially chasing after a one-year busy baby boy. I found that everything can be managed even on the bad days If I keep a positive outlook and remember the goals I am trying to accomplish.
Please tell us about Braided By K.
My business is Braided by K. I specialize in box braids, Knotless braids and kids braided hairstyles as well as a few others. I am becoming known for my Knotless braids in particular. Braided by K is my baby, I believe in my brand and I believe I have what it takes to take it further than braids.
What sets me apart from others is that braiding is my passion. Braiding is therapeutic for me, some people have different things that they do relieve stress but mine is braiding. Each part, each strand I take pride in its perfection and making sure my client is pleased and happy.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I’m just starting out and building my brand. I’m learning with each client I have. I have the opportunity to perfect my technique and come up with different ways to make my braids stand out against the rest. So far, there’s nothing I would change as of yet but I look forward to growing and learning in my craft.
