Meet Kani Kundalini

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kani Kundalini.

Kani, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a part of the 1st generation of my family to be born in America. Being raised in a Jamaican family, while being surrounded by American culture was a huge influence on me beginning my journey of understanding my identity.

Being an artist and creative is something I have been naturally doing my entire life. Creating helps me connect to myself. Since as long as I can remember, I would always create music videos to songs I heard, pretend to be different characters, create stories and songs, and doodle.
In high school, I would sketch drawings in the back of the class when I was finished with work and it was a fun way to pass time.

I began create with more intention when I was 17. Music became my outlet to release feelings that I held inside. Most of the songs I created at the time was from the perspective of an angsty teenager that felt misunderstood in a strange world.

The next peak moment in my creative journey was about a year later. I called my dad after experiencing a huge anxiety attack and after explaining what happened to him, he said I needed therapy. I immediately ordered a sketchbook and that was the start of me expressing my experience using visual art. I continued to expand my passion for creating using graphic design, canvas paintings, and face/body paintings.

I like to call my style of art “Introspective Art” due to my artworks being a capture of where my consciousness is at the moment I create them. The main theme in my journey is self-realization and all that I experience along the way is the biggest muse for my work.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No! Some of the struggles along the way were periods of time when I would lose confidence in my creativity. I am grateful for these struggles because they always result in me connecting even deeper with my creative flow.

Please tell us more about your artwork, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Art and astrology basically summarize all that Kani Kundalini does. Everything I do reflects how important self-love, self-expression, and self-awareness is to me. Without those three, this world can influence how you love, how you express, and what you’re aware of. I am always focused on remembering how those three truthfully feel.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
For me, luck is a word that connects to belief. For moments my belief is negative, I experience “bad” results. For moments my belief is positive, I experience “good” results. Having a business is showing me how important it is to make sure my beliefs match with what results/luck I want.
