Meet Kara Flowers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Flowers.

Kara Flowers

Hi Kara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My passion was ignited after competing as a figure competitor. I did not foresee my competitive experience, college major, blossoming into a career that would serve so many. I began my career as a video journalist after spending a short time at CNN, and I decided to stay home with my children. To maintain my health both physically and mentally, I began working out more frequently. A trainer took notice of my focus and consistency. After several attempts to get me to compete, I finally said YES! And there was no turning back. As my competitive time came to an end, I found myself sharing my story, my regiment with other women. I decided I am going to help other women get back to prioritizing themselves and being the best version of themselves. I went back to school to obtain my Masters of Exercise Science and worked to grow my career in the corporate wellness setting while building a small fitness business, The Wellness Lane, LLC. Over the years, like most things, the fitness industry changed, and wellness looked very different. In order to continue to help others and keep up with industry standards, I returned to school to become a certified health coach. I wanted to be able to guide clients as they peeled back the layers, help them make sustainable changes that fit their lifestyle. I am now NBC-HWC, which is the highest standard in our industry for coaching.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If it were easy everyone would be doing it! Raising two children while building your career was definitely challenging. Whether it was finding the time, finances, or just getting in my own way sometimes. As continued to grow, I had to let go of trying to keep up and learn I was right where I was supposed to be. Hard lessons, such as not everyone has your best interest in mind, so leaning into that spirit of discernment, learning, asking for help, realizing it is a strength, and I don’t have to have it all together. I just have to start.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a genuine love for the art of fitness with 20 plus years of discipline and dedication in the field. Helping clients reach their health and fitness goals through proper exercise and nutrition. I am also a board-certified health coach. As an NBC-HWC, I guide clients on their health and wellness journey. Healthy living and weight management in the long term means expecting the unexpected. That also means having the right mindset and being prepared to pivot. I help my clients do just that!

I am most known for the relationships I build and meeting my clients where they are. My approach is simple: try, rinse, repeat. We are unique individuals, and there is no one-size-fits-all.

What sets me apart from others is meeting clients where they are. I care about the whole person and strive to make sure I understand their goals being empathic and encouraging. Finding a way to relate to them.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid-19 crisis taught me to be more intentional and confirmed even more my passion for building awareness about the importance of physical and mental health.
