Today we’d like to introduce you to Kareem “Reemo Meerak” Tyson.
Hi Kareem “Reemo Meerak”, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Entered the entertainment industry in 2006 (phewwwwww some years…lol) as an Actor. Originally wanted to play basketball professionally, but within that journey a lot of injuries,, and personal matters took me off the focus to achieve that goal. Then, around Summer 2005 one of my mentors named; Doc (Known industry vet, and owner of Invite Only Studios, NYC) from The West 4th Street Cage had a solid and stern one to one talk with me about taking my passion and charisma to entertainment (Earlier in my life around my teenage years the same suggestion came about because of my personality). Fast forward a year later around April 2006, I’m at a house party in Harlem, and I’m being my jovial, witty, and energetic self. I’m in the kitchen with a younger guy whom looks like “Lupe Fiasco” and we chopp’n it up in the kitchen, and he tells me about CENTRAL CASTING Agency, where he does acting on major TV Shows,Commercials, and Movies. He proceeds to tell me the fee to join is $30.00USD (Shiddddd I was spending that on lunch). Now, at the time I’m working at a high fashion women’s store in SoHo, and I was focus on my next pivot in life, “TO GET IN THE INDUSTRY”. Next Day, I take off work and head down to their office in midtown, took a photo, and paid the fee. Filled out some paperwork, and from there waiting to see if I would be casted on a projects. A couple of weeks go by, and I was casted for Law & Order:SVU. Now, I wasn’t a main or supporting actor. I was a Background Actor. Nonetheless, I was still hyped because it was a start in the right path and process of what I wanted. Over the years, I would get one liners, or minor roles on various projects.
Some I got heavily featured, and some not so much. For sure, things with my job we starting to decrease, as my mind was on the industry. The hell with putting shoes, dresses, and dealing with fukery people (Not all, but a good amount of them). Even when I got fired, I was heading to set the next day…so honestly…..Oh The F__k WELL…lol. Life has to move on, and I have a goal to achieve.
One thing I must say, entering the industry I was “Happy-Go-Lucky” because I was away from luxury retail life, as well as really starting to build a love for creativity, and down the line go through some trials, and tribulations that lead to contributing majority of my life to the industry which I can explain later on in this feature.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As mentioned before, went through a lot of trials and tribulations. One of them being, multiple attempts of trying to take my life. During my acting phase, I really didn’t get a grasp of the business, and my inspirations of being a Will Smith, Samuel L. Jackson type actor didn’t seem to go as planned, and for a first time in my life I’m heavily panicking and worrying about what others are going to feel about me, or for that matter built up an anxiety that wasn’t needed. Wild drinking binges, attempting to go in front of a subway train, and just straight up not eating, and sitting over rails of bridges and just willing to take the next step and end it all. Losing my self-love at an all-time high…just flat out lost. My final attempt is where my life really starts taking a change, and the lord had an angel save me. At the time, I’m living in The Bronx, and the 207st Bridge wasn’t far from me. I was just sick of everything, and proceeded to the bridge. I get to it and literally looking over the water and really like “Fuggghhh’it” it’s the best thing to do (Wow…). I take one leg over the rail, and literally sitting on the rail. All I need I the other leg to go over. Then, this short-stocky man (Mexican or some sort of Latino decent) literally yanks me off the the rail and onto the ground. He’s cursing and yelling at me in Spanish, and says in barely English, “You Stupid Ass!!!”.
I’m on the ground sitting crying so hard, and can’t believe I was saved. Stand up, look through my phone whom I think I can call to just finally express of what I’m going through without being judged. I hit up one of my good people, and friends (Let’s just call her “R” for respect purposes). I call her and tell her to meet me at BBQ’s on 164th and Broadway.
From there, once she arrived I cried even more. Expressing that him sick of the stress, and pain, as well as losing MYSELF. I want to be happy again.
After this, I transitioned to Media in 2012, and from there started working on more of a understanding of the business, I Iove every bit of my journey thus far.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, involved with Media as a Correspondent, Blogger, & Podcaster. I contribute for Digiwaxx.Com, do write-up & reviews on events I attend, or on music artists dropping a new project. Since 2020, returned to acting where I was featured on shows for Amazon Prime, The Drew Barrymore Show, and MTV.
I specialize in content creation, and being a multi-hyphenated talent.
Most proud of my journey the since 2006 in entertainment, and just how I persevered through a lot in the industry, and never sold or hindered my integrity and work ethic.
Honestly, the I build relationships, my entry across the board, never involving myself in foolishness, and do my all to be as business as possible within the industry.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality I feel the most important to my success or path thereof is that “My Perseverance Is REAL”. Despite, not the huge fame and fortunes over the years, but I’ve a substantial, and consistent reputation where it can be trusted for me to get the job done, and maintain a business prowess that don’t effect things negatively. Although, my numbers are not as high as I want to be, or to be assumed based upon the years of doing it. The feedback after I cover an event or conduct an interview has been respectful and relieved that I know what I’m doing, and done my due diligence of research correctly.
Also, my work ethic makes people want to work with me.
