Today we’d like to introduce you to Karla Taylor.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Events and design have always been my passion! Having started in corporate planning and moving into showroom planning, design and public relations for a floral container company, I was able to develop well-rounded skills that have helped me succeed in my role as Operations + Social Media Manager for the Design Studio, A Divine Event and Magic Moments Venues. This role perfectly combines my love of logistical operations, event design, and execution, as well as social media marketing. Divine events are our business – I love making them happen and sharing the beautiful results with the social-verse!
Has it been a smooth road?
Events always offer a few surprises! I truly never thought I would end up executing hundreds of events a year, but that is where my passion and my path have a lead. There is no greater satisfaction than creating unforgettable days for people on a weekly basis. Not to mention, how fun is it to create unique looks all the time?! We love when a couple comes in with a saturated color palette or eager to try a new wedding trend.
As for the struggles that come along with events-they are endless. We are constantly challenged by creating new installations and how to implement them. Along the way, I have become a master “rigger” on site. We will do everything to make the vision of our client come to life, which does not always go as planned in the execution. However, the result is always amazing! The mechanics of our installation (and the struggle to get there) are hidden from the client, only showcasing their vision realized. A floral designer and event professional’s greatest asset is his or her on-the-spot problem-solving skills. Quick thinking on your feet is a must in this industry!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the A Divine Event Design Studio story. Tell us more about the business.
A Divine Event is an exclusive caterer and design studio for its Magic Moments venues, of which we own six currently. Our all-inclusive business model is uniquely defined in Atlanta’s event sphere, from award-winning food and design to day-of planning services and superior event venues, A Divine Event + Magic Moments specializes in making your special event carefree and memorable. Service and guest experience are of the utmost importance to us and it shines through in all aspects of your planning process. We have truly refined the wedding planning process to fine art, flawlessly executing hundreds of events each year.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Weddings and events are ever-evolving, changing with the trends in fashion, food, florals, and decor. We have seen a lot of couples focusing more on the details of their event, everything from custom linens and stationary to unique florals and lounge furniture, signature drinks, and late-night bites. A shift to smaller guest counts so that the budget can be allocated to more elaborate details is a trend I am here for! Focusing on a bigger look and details that will positively impact your guests’ experience is something I advocate for. We are loving the late night snack trend that lets your guests enjoy a comfort food after all that drinking and dancing (think mini chicken and waffles, burger sliders or trail mix). Sticking with food trends, the millennial love of brunch is spilling over into events, as more couples opt for early reception times serving mimosa bars, omelet stations and a variety of brunch favorites. In terms of decor, more and more couples are leaning toward bold colors and textures, defining a unique style through florals and decor, making for a memorable look. Custom seating has also become more important with specialty reception seating and lounge furniture being arranged for cocktail hour.
