Today we’d like to introduce you to Karliya Holsey.
Hi Karliya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey all started after losing my great-grandmother at the end of 2017. I started looking at life with more of a purpose rather than it being this ball of fun. Before, I was the girl who networked with everyone while holding down college classes, working full time at a call center, and modeling on the side. To everyone, I had it all figured out, but in reality, I was lost. I started what I call “The Prayer Box” in tribute to my great-grandmother. I used an old jewelry box she gave me to write down all the prayers I wanted to manifest. I often would post to my social media about the blessings that happened for me. Over time people from all over wanted me to pray for them. Every day I would have several inbox notifications and prayer requests. Ten requests quickly turned into two hundred or more.
The biggest request to come true was my own. October 11, 2021 I got accepted into flight training to be a flight attendant for Delta airlines. Quickly after graduating, I knew I wanted to start a new journey that would help me touch the world as much as the prayer box. I started a series called Landing With Lilly to help people see the world and get a glimpse of what a flight attendant goes through. Instantly I began getting millions of viewers, several inboxes from people all over the world, and requests from travel agencies. So far, I have been blessed to mentor six individuals who now have earned their wings as flight attendants.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If you know me then you know I don’t sugarcoat. This journey was indeed a hard one for me. I found myself constantly feeling empty because I poured so much of myself into cups that weren’t my own. I struggled with finances while in training due to leaving my old job and having made minimum wage from training. I had to deal with losing two family members on top of not being able to attend their funerals. The biggest struggle of them all was putting on a smile so I could continue being the strong person that everyone looked to for guidance. On the bright side, I did manage to find my strengths. I’m the mist of all that chaos.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a content creator and a full-time flight attendant for Delta Airlines. I am known for my series Landing With Lilly which is a mini vlog where I document my journey as a flight attendant. I am super proud of the success and networking opportunities that this platform has brought me as a whole. I have been able to travel to destinations all over the world for little to no charge at all while still “earning my coins” as people say now lol.
I strongly feel my personality sets me apart from so many others. Being a young successful black woman is already heavily opinionated, so when I step into a room, I like to leave my mark. You can find me randomly talking to the quietest person in the room simply because I see potential in everything. I feel that everyone has a story that makes them who they are and you could be that push they need to become successful.
How do you think about happiness?
What truly makes me happy is exploring new cultures, helping people and seeing the world.
I’ve always felt joy when I bring a smile to people around me, rather it’s a passenger, family, friends, etc.
I love when I film new mini Vlogs for landing with Lilly. The comments I get from people saying that I inspire them and they can’t wait to be a part of the journey really touches my heart.
Most of all, what makes me happy is finally getting to meet the people that I mentor in person. Usually, the people I mentor communicate with me through social media or text message, so seeing them graduate flight school and seeing them in person really makes it feel like meeting a long-lost friend 🙂
