Today we’d like to introduce you to Kashanti Dopwell.
Kashanti, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been fascinated with the concept of exercise, even at a young age, but I only got into fitness during my sophomore year of college in 2017. I had been working part-time for around two years and had gained some weight that I wasn’t comfortable with. My weight is known to fluctuate when I’m not active, so I’d always beg my parents to get me a gym membership as a teenager. Back then, their responses were usually about transportation and who would be paying for the membership, but this time I had both a job and my own car.
During the time I was in school, I was stressed about my workload and my personal life, so I decided what better way to relieve stress than to go to the gym? One of my friends mentioned how much clearer her mind was after she worked out, so I decided to go with her and see for myself and ended up getting my own membership that same day. After signing up, I decided to pay attention to how working out made me feel instead of how it made me look and within no time, I became addicted. Not to mention, my consistency caused me to lose about 15lbs in around three months, which was, of course, another reason for me to fall in love with fitness even more!
It’s been two years that I’ve been consistently working out, and I still feel as passionate about fitness as I did when I started and I don’t believe that passion will ever go away.
Currently, I’ve become a personal trainer in hopes of inspiring people to become active and embrace an active lifestyle and of course get in the best shape of their lives!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting into fitness has been a pretty smooth road. I mainly motivate myself, so staying motivated isn’t that hard for me since it’s something I’m passionate about.
Mynameiskashanti – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am currently a fitness trainer specializing in group and personal fitness classes. I am known for staying consistent in my fitness journey and motivating others to become active throughout their life as well. What sets me apart from others has to be my passion. A lot of trainers are undoubtedly passionate about fitness, but I believe we all have a certain level of passion that works best for certain people. I’ve realized that fitness is a journey. No matter how skilled you are, there’s always something to learn and I accept that, even while teaching others what I currently know.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment so far has to be quitting my second job to pursue my fitness career after months of hesitation.
