Today we’d like to introduce you to KaShawna Alexander.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey in fashion began when I was six years old watching Project Runway. This peaked my interest in fashion! I was inspired by the creativity and fabrication that made the show great! Not too long after that I taught myself how to hand sew, and my great aunt taught me how to use a sewing machine. My great aunt was also the same woman who gave me my first sewing machine. From then on, I began making my own clothes. Sometimes wearing them to school, other times making them for family and friends. It wasn’t until my sophomore year in high school that it struck me that this could be more than a hobby, it could be a business. From then on, I began making clothes and selling them for my peers, and shortly after that I started my website. And ever since then I have put in nothing but blood, sweat, and tears into my brand. Today, I am registered as an LLC, shipping orders out of state to people I’ve never even met! My customers support my brand and love my clothes more than anything! This journey has been more than rewarding! I have had the greatest family and friends as my support system from day one!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course there have been bumps in the road. Flaky customers, more lost than gains, and slow sales that make me question my business and abilities. I have endured all the risks and ups and downs that come with being an entrepreneur.
Jodora Clothing – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Jodora Clothing is an Online E-Commerce Store; specializing in mostly women and men’s apparel. Every garment is handmade by me in North Carolina. I am most proud of the individuality of my brand and my ability to cater to my customers! What sets me apart is that I have over 13 years dedicated to my craft (sewing), and my work ethic, as well as my garments are unmatched!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment I have had in my career so far would be the day I attended a school event and promoted my business to other fellow entrepreneurial women! They were so welcoming and supportive, and filled my social media accounts with love! To have complete strangers rally for my business was surreal and it topped my year!
