Meet Kathy Vail of Dunwoody Fencing Club in North Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Vail.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After completing my coaches training at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, I began teaching fencing in small community programs in 2000.

In 2003, I opened Dunwoody Fencing Club and, in 2004, I founded the Georgia High School Fencing League. Both have grown at an incredible rate over the years.

I love our sport and have worked hard to help it grow nationwide. I am USA Fencing’s Regional Coordinator for the southeastern United States and a member of the organization’s Scholastic Task Force. My students have earned medals in local, regional, and national medals. I have also trained fencers who have earned college fencing scholarships and who compete in NCAA Division I programs

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not always been smooth. As a female coach in a primarily male field, there have been challenges. I am happy to say that my students’ results have answered those challenges.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dunwoody Fencing Club – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Dunwoody Fencing Club is a highly competitive epee club that also welcomes recreational fencers.
The fact that we see our students as individuals with lives outside fencing, rather than as cogs in a sports machine, sets us apart.

I am most proud of our students’ successes, both on and off the fencing strip.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
BEST: The people
LEAST: The traffic
