Meet Katie Blazer of Mud Pie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Blazer.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Katie. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I have always been in love with the creative process of fashion design. After graduating from design school, I joined Mud Pie as an intern! Over the last decade, I have touched every process of design and product development and worn many hats along the way.

From developing home decor product to children’s apparel, I landed in women’s fashion and never looked back. I now direct the Women’s Fashion Division and am responsible for designing hundreds of SKUs each year.

Has it been a smooth road?
My path has certainly had its obstacles, but I could always see past the hard times knowing what my end goal was. I always knew that I wanted to design women’s apparel and that passion and desire outweighed the obstacles. I think that bumps and struggles are what makes a person stronger.

In an artistic environment, there will always be creative differences and being able to overcome that and know when to step back and when to speak up are some integral lessons I have learned along the way.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mud Pie story. Tell us more about the business.
Mud Pie is a wholesale design company with three divisions: Home, Kids, & Women’s Fashion. I am the Director of Women’s Fashion and am responsible for creating seasonal collections with my design team. I get to travel the world and attend trending shows to gain inspiration and product knowledge from an international level.

This exposure sets Mud Pie apart from others as my main goal is to achieve incredible quality and design elements but offer our customer a ‘wow’ price that is unmatched in our market. I am most proud of the Mud Pie culture.

Mud Pie is women-run and our CEO, Marcia Miller, is an inspiration to everyone she meets. It is inspiring to be around a group of powerful and creative women changing the world, one product at a time.

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years?  Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
One thing I find interesting about the fashion industry is how much it is influenced by the economy, politics and social media trends. Our industry is constantly evolving and shifting based on these elements.

With designers like Gucci and Stella McCartney going fur-free, we are seeing some big evolutionary changes and social responsibility. I think these trends will continue to propel in the next 5-10 years.
