Meet Katie White

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie White.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My grandmother was an extremely talented landscape artist in Ponte Vedra FL and she always said she believed I had the ability to paint as well. After I had my daughter and stopped working a full-time “desk” job, I began painting at home. My grandmother taught me the fundamentals of landscape painting and would critique my pieces, give me direction, and push me to keep honing my own craft. After she passed away, I began taking art classes to get a more traditional education in color comprehension, depth analysis, and compositional design. From there, I began painting as much as I could and haven’t stopped!

Please tell us about your art.
I was born at the beach in Charleston and I swear it lives within me. I am at my happiest when I’m near the water and it is a fixture around which my art revolves. I started my career painting landscapes of the ocean and my abstract work is all inspired by the ocean and surrounding beach. All the colors I use can be found at, in, or by the water. There’s something about it that is serene and soothing to me and no matter how hard I try, I can’t paint anything different. I guess that’s how a style is born!

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
When I deliver a painting to a client and see how much their face lights up, I feel successful as an artist. I want them to walk by that piece of art day after day and always find something unique and wonderful about it. I hope that my art helps to define and bring life to a space in a home. That is success as an artist to me.
