Meet Katrecia Melodi of Silky Glow Esthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrecia Melodi.

Hi Katrecia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from Dekalb County but spent most of my time in North Atlanta. I didn’t have the most stable childhood so that helped motivate me to be successful. I’ve been a Licensed Esthetician since 2018. I was originally a Medical Assistant for a total of ten years but five years into it, I decided to switch up my career. I always loved the medical field and enjoyed helping people but after spending a lot of time in the hospital with my grandmother, I was unsure if I still wanted to pursue the medical field. I found myself taking an interest in beauty and skincare videos but I instantly took a bigger interest in skincare, so I began researching careers in that field. I learned how broad the esthetics industry was. I could work in a medical setting or be an entrepreneur! Coincidentally, I ran into an old friend that had just started esthetics school. She did a practice facial on me and I instantly fell in love with the glow! I began Esthetics school shortly after that! With the stress of working full time, caring for my grandma, and having so many products applied to my face at school, my skin began to break out. I made it my new mission to get my acne under control.

After trying different things for months, I was able to clear my acne on my own! I learned that it can be caused by multiple things. I started helping others clear their skin just by suggesting lifestyle tips and products! This steered me in the direction to become an entrepreneur. I was still unsure so when I graduated esthetics school, I began working at a medical spa owned by a doctor who I had previously worked with. It was an amazing experience because I worked as an esthetician and a medical assistant and was able to use both of my trades! I also learned so much! I worked there for four years but two years in, I started doing facials for close family/friends and people that could not afford to come to the medical spa for treatments. I loved the clients and staff at the medical spa but I found my focus drifting away from there and more towards wanting to go out on my own. With much encouragement and support, I opened Silky Glow Esthetics in 2020! I believe my work ethic was heavily influenced by my Grandma she worked many jobs to take care of the family so big shout out to her!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is the road to success ever smooth? It was a risk to open a business in the beginning of a pandemic especially since I deal with anxiety. I was so uncomfortable with being close to people during the pandemic. I’m much better now. I just wear the recommended protection. My bigger struggle was me stressing about losing clients because of my treatment style. I’m very results driven but my way takes a little bit longer than some would prefer. We are the generation of instant gratification so most people want to see results right away. I prefer to treat clients without using any harsh lasers or deep chemical peels. I understand that the reasoning behind those treatments are to get faster results. I just prefer to be less aggressive with the skin to lower the risk of damaging it. Especially with most of my clients being POC. I achieve results through a customized treatment plan, home care, and lifestyle changes! I make it pretty clear to my clients that results require patience but mostly consistency. I do love microchanneling and micro-chemical peels. I have seen great results from them! Fortunately, I have had a great experience of success with majority of my clients. I made peace with the potential of losing clients. It can happen to anyone. I have even referred a couple of clients to other estheticians that perform those deeper treatments because everyone deserves to be happy!

How do you think about happiness?
Choosing to be happy every day makes me happy! I can completely change my whole mood just by focusing on the things I am grateful for! It also warms my heart to get a text or picture from a client expressing how happy they are about the results that I helped them achieve! I love helping people feel more confident. Spending time with my significant other, family, and friends makes me happy. Though my biggest source of happiness in the last year was becoming a mom! I am beyond blessed!
