Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay McMurray.
Kay, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I always felt I had a sense of style that was different from everyone else, which allowed me to stand out more. I’ve always been very interested in fashion and I figured that I could make my own brand but I didn’t know-how. Sitting in my college dorm room, I would hang pictures of logos that I designed on my wall and tell myself that one day I’ll actually bring them to life. I showed these pictures to my Grandad and he decided to invest in me by giving me a heat press machine. Money was very tight at the time, so I could only afford to make some clothes for my brother and me to wear around campus. The feedback we began to get was amazing, so we decided to invest in ourselves.
In December of 2017, with the help of my brother and cousin, Drip Apparel Clothing was created. Our brand began to grow quickly because we focused on being different from everyone else and we’ve gained constant support because of it. Although it hasn’t been easy, I believe that seeing someone wearing something I designed is one of the best feelings ever and that inspires me to keep going.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a bumpy road but I still find a way to manage. If you believe in yourself, then you must invest in yourself. There have been sleepless nights up making clothes or working on new ideas just to keep people interested. A lot of projects have failed, which made us feel like giving up but when you have a team full of people that constantly support your dreams, you realize failure is just apart of the journey to the top.
Please tell us about Drip Apparel Clothing.
Drip Apparel Clothing is based in Atlanta, GA. Our business specializes in clothes that stand out with designs that are different from other brands. We also specialize in custom apparel, which allows us to personally design something for our customers by adding our own “Drip” to it. As a company, I am most proud of the growth of Drip Apparel over the years because we are constantly elevating.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would use the knowledge I’ve learned from my past mistakes to ensure I don’t repeat these same mistakes again. I would also use my knowledge to help others who want to grow their brand.
