Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Anthony.
Hi Kayla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have always been extremely self-motivated and ambitious, always looking for the next opportunity to get me ahead in life. I was a very young mom, so failure was never an option for me. After having my daughter at 16, I immediately jumped into working- sometimes two jobs at a time just to make ends meet. Over the years, I bounced around from job to job until I finally landed my first salary job at the age of 25. I used this job to maximize on everything I could. I was able to pull myself out of debt, I purchased my first home, I even went back to school and obtained my bachelor’s degree in Business. However, as time went on, I realized I wanted more out of life- I knew my potential and what I truly could achieve with my skillset; I wanted to find my passion. I was tired of being overlooked, underpaid, and undervalued (in all aspects of life). I prayed and asked God to order me to my next stage in life. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but I knew that I wanted to find my purpose.
In January 2020, I decided to take a Real Estate class, the idea literally just came to me one morning. Being a real estate agent meant I could work for myself and there were no limits how much money I could make-no cap on income. I then found a real estate class I could start right away and that worked with my crazy work schedule. I figured I could get my feet wet with real estate while I continued to work for my job, but God had other plans. A few months after Covid hit my job decided to “downsize” the establishment, that is when I knew Real Estate had to be my new plan and I had to make it work. I took my real estate test November 2020 and passed it the first time, once I became fully active with a brokerage, I began to promote myself everywhere I could and educate myself on real estate as much as possible. The feeling I got after closing my first deal was amazing, I wanted to keep going. 2021 was my first full year in the real estate world, and I became a Top Producer- I individually sold over 5+ million dollars in real estate transactions. I have literally built my entire brand in less than 12 months; hard work will always pay off. I love what I do, I love the connections I have created, and I love being able to use my individual skillset to successfully create and close deals.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Haha, the road has not been a smooth one, there has been plenty of times where I have struggled and felt myself wanting to call it quits throughout my journey. Working for myself has had its ups and downs as this is all new for me, especially with being a mom of four and having a family that depends on me. I’d say the main struggle with being a realtor is standing out and basically proving why a person should work with you versus the next agent. The Real Estate market is heavily oversaturated, and I was a new agent coming in a playing field against people with years of experience. Next, the cost to be a real estate agent is also not cheap; but then again, I am sure that comes with the territory of being your own boss. I also had to quickly learn the industry in a short time frame which meant there was very little room for error, especially with me wanting to be successful. There was also the overall pressure of this profession; as a realtor you are helping people make some of the biggest purchases of their lives- this must be done right, no matter what and you don’t get paid until the real estate transaction is completely closed. Lastly, another struggle for me was learning how to ignore the negativity of others, people would tell me how “new” real estate agents aren’t successful or how I wasn’t going to be able to solely rely on my real estate business for steady income- but it’s a good thing I always believe in myself and my vision, had I listened to and believed some of the negativity that was told to me I would not be where I am today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m currently a licensed agent in Georgia and South Carolina. As a Real Estate Agent, I help clients purchase, sell, and lease property. Working on negotiations between buyers and sellers is also part of my work all while making sure terms of real estate contracts are met. I like to think I am known as “A Realtor Who Gets Results”- even with the Real Estate market being so competitive, I am still able to effectively communicate with individuals on all levels to ensure my clients get everything and more out of their deals. I am most proud of having people that trust me to help them with such a major life decision.
What sets me apart from others is my passion, my determination, and my resilience. No matter what I am faced with, I will always get the task completed and I will complete it to the very best of my ability. I’m also outgoing and great at building relationships. I am truly inspired to help others anywhere I can; seeing the happiness and success of others make me happy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I honestly don’t believe in luck (good or bad) – I am blessed. I am sure from the outside looking in people may think “dang, she is so lucky”, but I have worked very hard for everything I have, and I’ve picked myself up every time I’ve failed. I am favored, everything I’ve gone through was to only prepare me for my next chapter. Being connected to the right people, being in the right place at the right time, and my success is because I am blessed; I also put in the necessary work. My faith is also very strong, I always stay faithful and positive because I know what is for me will always be for me.
