Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Guiste.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kayla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I was a little girl, I had an affinity for the arts. It started with music but as I got older, I realized I had a passion for fashion and modeling as well. My parents invested in my interests from a young age which allowed me to hone in on my modeling and on-camera skills. I made the decision to attend Clark Atlanta University and major in Mass Media arts so that I could delve deeper into my interest in media. Coming to Atlanta allowed me to broaden my portfolio, connect with talented individuals, and learn more about the media industry.
Has it been a smooth road?
Pursuing a dream always has its ups and downs. I have found myself in a lot of spaces where I question myself and my ability. Its hard feeling like you are not where you want to be or not being sure if you’ll be able to get there. Pursuing a career in the creative/art field can be very hard because there is no blueprint on how to get there. Whereas for someone who is pursuing a career in the law, finance, or medical field, etc there are specific steps that you take that almost guarantee your success in that field. So maintaining my confidence, faith, and consistency in what I’m doing always keeps me going.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am an aspiring model and media personality. There are a multitude of interests that I have within both industries, so I don’t like to limit myself. However, I am most known for modeling and fashion. I’m most proud of how much I have grown and improved in working on my crafts. What sets me apart from others is my versatility and my attention to detail.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I was raised in Tampa, FL. So wanting to pursue a career in media/fashion on the scale that I wanted to was bit harder in my city. When I came to Atlanta, I knew that it would be a great place to start, being that it has a much larger market for media and entertainment. Atlanta is a relatively small city, which makes it a lot easier to connect with great people. People in Atlanta are very supportive and make it a point to help when and where they can. I would certainly recommend Atlanta as a great starting point for someone who would like to get into the entertainment/fashion industry.
