Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylan Colbert.
Kaylan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story starts in Houston, Texas, when I finished Law School at Texas Southern University. I then moved to Atlanta about two months later and settled in. I always had dreams of coming to Atlanta to start a business because I always noticed that African Americans thrived here. I worked as an assistant at a couple of personal injury law firms in Atlanta and eventually became an Assistant District Attorney in Fulton County, the largest county in the State of Georgia.
After leaving the DA’s office, I then worked at one of the largest personal injury firms in Georgia, where I honed in on my craft, Later I decided to hang my own shingle and break off. I started my firm about a month later and the rest was history. Clients started to pour in and referrals came in left to right. I was able to grow my business in a matter of months and haven’t looked back. This has, by far, been one of the best decisions I have made in my career. I find that the most important thing is customer service and treating everyone with respect!
Has it been a smooth road?
There were struggles along the way, which included financial struggles. I was concerned that I didn’t have a big budget for marketing like some of the larger firms, but we found a way to make up for that with online advertising. Social media platforms are thriving and that it was the bulk of my business comes from.
Please tell us more about your practice.
I run a Personal Injury Law Firm that specializes in helping people who have been injured in Motor Vehicle Accidents or Premise Liability cases, which include Slip and Falls. I am the proudest of the fact that we are doing a great service to our clients by helping them through tumultuous events in their lives. We are able to lend them a helping hand in a time of need. What sets us apart is definitely customer service as cliche as it sounds. We know in our field communication is key and we thrive on making sure our clients always stay in the know!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see some changes in the industry due to the current Covid-19 virus. Due to the virus, there have been concerns about visiting hospitals and medical facilities for treatment. Because of this, attorneys are now offering Telemedicine services so that clients do not have to go to appointments ins person. Clients are now able to have treatment from the comfort of their home via any mobile device. I see this being a major shift in our field and changing the way some things are done.
