Meet Kaylene Campbell of Hall of Visions in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylene Campbell.

Kaylene, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally from Hamilton, Ontario which is 30 minutes west of Toronto Ontario, Canada. It’s been five years since I first came here to live and I’ve really grown a lot. When I first got here, I decided to start off in the service industry because it was busy and lucrative for me at that time. I also had a few side hustles as everyone does. One of my side hustles was reading Tarot Cards. I started reading eight years ago and haven’t looked back. It has allowed me to connect with people in this city on a deeper level. At first, I started reading at local pop-ups and markets here and there and wondered if I could take the next step with it. I asked around and found a shop called Modern Mystic in Ponce City Market. I applied to be a card reader at the shop and I got the job. I always wondered how people did spiritual work for a living and here I am living it! Helping others find direction and clarity in their lives while getting to learn from the experiences of others is one of the most gratifying parts of what I do. It also allowed me to transition from service industry to a solid day job.

I also run my own shop where I book readings at hallofvisions.com. Tarot readings are like therapy, they help you to focus on that inner compass to give you some honest direction at the crossroads we all deal with in our lives. It’s really beneficial to tap into that inner voice from time to time just to make sure that you are living your truth. I also paint on repurposed/vintage mirrors and sell them in my shop and via Instagram. Tarot is a mirror of your soul/subconscious and that is why I use mirrors as my canvas.

Atlanta has also connected me with some amazing people that have helped me to get more involved in fundraising, music and the arts. I have also worked for Dope Girls Zine from 2015-2017. Dope Girls is a women run, LGBTQI inclusive marijuana zine. At that time I was creating art for the zine as well as organizing events, doing social media and screen printing for the publication as well. Funds generated from the zine were donated to Planned Parenthood. It’s really important for me to give back to an important cause especially when health resources for all women in the United States are costly and most people cannot afford it. Health care should be a right not a privatized, “you get what you pay for” type of policy. A healthier people is an overall happier people.

I’ve also gotten DJ gigs on a regular basis since I’ve landed in Atlanta. I currently DJ around East Atlanta Village and DJ events here and there. I’ve always been attracted to music in so many ways. I recently started playing shows under the name KrystalV as a solo electronic act. Just released a single on my Soundcloud and played Estoriafest, The Bakery and 529. My next goals are to keep releasing music, tour in the near future, watch my Tarot business grow and have art shows for my mirrors and donate time/money to beneficial causes, just to name a few.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Every road has its lumps and bumps, really. I feel like I’ve seen a lot of people around me go through tougher times than I’ve been through and I am so grateful that I have such a strong supportive network of friends that have allowed me to be where I am today. Most of my struggles were internal. Ive dealt with depression and self-esteem issues for years, I’m still dealing with those things today and thats why I go to therapy. It’s important to find out why you feel the way you feel and how to let go of/release that past trauma and pain in order to grow into your higher self.

Please tell us about Hall of Visions.
I am a Tarot card reader/Astrologer, I specialize in spiritual advising. I am not a fortune teller, so by saying you don’t “believe in that type of stuff” to me means you’re not into inner work or self-reflection as a means of navigation or self-discovery. Astrology and Tarot are a language not a belief system or a way of thinking.

I’m most proud of my ability to connect with people on a deeper level and to provide clarity for them when they need it most.

I believe the thing that sets me apart from others is how multidimensional I am as a reader, designer and musician. It’s about how I incorporate all of my talents into a condensed form that is about self-expression, empathy and the cosmic forces that affect all of us.

I’m also proud of the fact that my company/brand is growing and I am growing as a result of that. I enjoy living, thinking and creating outside of the normative box. It’s all an extension of who I am.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I definitely would’ve learned more about finance. It’s not something they teach children/teens early on in life in public schools/high schools and I think it’s something that should be mandatory since managing your finances and stability is such a large part of life. I also would’ve gone to therapy much earlier. I love myself so much more now than I ever have which allows me to love others with a newfound openness. Also maybe being a bit more picky about who I allowed into my life, however some people come through just to teach you something and for that I’m grateful.
