Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylynn Perryman.
Kaylynn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well I’ve always knew I wanted to do hair since I was young I just didn’t have the confidence to put myself out there because it’s so many other people that do the same thing, I then came across this amazing person Ms.Monica owner of “addabangxtentions” just talked to me and pushed me to go after my dream. If it wasn’t for her, I honestly don’t think I would have ever made an Instagram account or any other social media platform to promote myself. I told my parents that I wanted to start doing hair out of the house and they were super supportive. My dad literally built me a salon, my mom promotes me every chance she gets so I am forever grateful for my support system, but ever since I’ve started September 2017 and was known with the name “SlayedByKay” but it just didn’t feel like something I was in love with, so I changed it to “KrownedByKayMichelle” and I’ve just been hard working non stop to get my name out there, late nights early mornings. I am only 19 years old and my main focus right now is just building my brand. I will soon be starting my hair line “KrownedByKayMichelle Kollection”! May of 2019 My dream is to become a celebrity master stylist and i will not stop until I get to where I want to be.
Has it been a smooth road?
Well at first it was kinda hard to get people to stop overlooking me. Because it’s so many other people doing the same thing and my prices were low compared to other stylist in Atlanta so I guess some people didn’t trust me at first. But from then to now I just let my work speak for itself I started out having slow weeks of slow days sometimes but now I have consistent clientele.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in weaves, closures, frontals, custom units & traditional installs, I am mostly known for my flawless closure installs, I am proud that I’ve seen my business grow so much as far as my clientele, and my work ethic I love what I do I take a lot of pride in my business. I think I’m so much different from Others because I give great quality for a good price here in Atlanta, I just couldn’t charge someone something I wouldn’t pay myself. Some of these stylist prices are just way too high but I’m not knocking nobody, most of them are very talented and deserve everything coming their way.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like our city ATLANTA, is a great place to for businesses like mine, granted there are plenty of other hairstylist and people who sale hair but there are so many opportunities here I feel as if we can all bring each other up in a way there’s enough for all of us to eat, so yes I would recommend somebody starting out to start out here, just have to be very consistent, post pictures on your social media and get out there and network with others.
