Today we’d like to introduce you to Kekeli Togbo.
Kekeli, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When we first moved to America, I was nine years old. Coming to a different country was so different for me, especially being as young as I was. I remember being 11 years old and always sneaking to my mother’s room and taking her eyeliner to apply in my eyes. She always us to tell me to “wait until I got older.”
Once I got to middle school, all my friends knew me as the “nail girl” because I would go to school with different nail styles every day! And ever since then, I never stopped doing nails. I got back into makeup In high school and I started making wigs at the end of my junior year in high school. I have really supportive friends and family that inspired me to turn my hobbies into a business, and I can finally say I am now a 19 years old self-taught ARTIST!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t been easy at all. I am not the most confident person on earth so it is very tough for me to appreciate or value my work. As of work-wise, I’m perfecting my craft each and everyday; although it isn’t the most perfect one out here, I practice every day to make my craft as good as it can get.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the K’s Beauty Palace story. Tell us more about the business.
We were all born in our beautiful and unique ways. The only thing I do is to enhance my KDolls beauty with either makeup, wigs, and nails. One thing that sets me apart from others is that I push myself to learn new things each and everyday I don’t just want to be know as someone that does makeup, wigs or nails. I want to be as diverse as I can get.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t say I’m a lucky person but rather I am very blessed! I have an amazing God that blesses me each and everyday. And I have the best friends and family members that are extremely supportive.
