Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Morgan.
Kelly, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a young artist, I started singing when I was seven but what made me really go for it was I was bullied and I didn’t want to turn bitter music was there and I turned to that… I’m an Urban pop/Contemporary RnB singer. I was born in Atlanta, GA. I got to where I am through consistency, hard work, dedication, and drive and networking and not letting anyone tell me what I can and can not do… growing a fan base allowed me to be able to do bigger things as well not saying, it’s easier but it kind of is. My motto is big dreams & a big heart to follow. I have opened for Ashanti & Ja rule twice… I’ve performed Showtime at the Apollo (ON FOX), New York Fashion Week in New York City, And recently did an interview on Fox’s Emmy award winning the show “Teen kids news”… African Chicago fest… just to name a few. It was at an early age where I turned my bitterness from being bullied into inspiring people through my music. It was music and God, that saved me and taught me who I am today. As I would say, “I don’t like competing, but I will run toe to toe. writes all her songs.”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s not been an easy road, it’s been really up and down, not having too much financial available has made it tough sometimes, but I told myself I wasn’t going to be the girl…. who didn’t make it or who wouldn’t go for my dreams because of lack of money. It just means I have to work ten times harder and build those right connections and continue to have the right support by me to help make things happen. At one point, my parents didn’t fully believe in me and not saying they fully believe in me now… but when you want to make your parents proud and yourself proud, that’s a battle within itself you know but I think it’s about being strong-willed and pushing through and hoping one day, they will understand. Those are some struggles just to name a few.
Please tell us about your work.
Well, my company is more so my brand, I self manage as of now, so I do everything in relation to making sure my needs are met as an artist and, of course, their things that I can still learn to help better that. I’m most proud of just some of the things I’ve done without management but I can imagine the things that I can do with management which is ideal I feel like everyone needs to help you know, what sets me apart from others is I’m me and it’s not a cocky thing, it’s a confident and humbling thing, everyone has their individual fingerprint and I feel like that plays a big part, but also what sets me apart is my hard work and dedication. It’s hard for a no to sit with me, so I do everything I can to improve myself and my brand.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, what I would have done differently was trust the process a little more. I feel like when people think you want something so bad, you will do any and everything for it and that’s not always the case to an extent, but I wish I would have yielded more in situations instead of just jumping into them head on
