Today we’d like to introduce you to KeMoNi.
Kemoni, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Oh man, I remember learning of Michael Jackson when I was five years old, I used to dance and sing all of his songs from “Ben” all the way to “Thriller.” Hell, I got kicked out of middle school because all I did was imitate the King of Pop. But I say, the journey for me making music started back when I was 13 years old living in Greensboro, NC. I just bought an MXL USB Condenser Mic, Fruity Loops Program, and Magix Music Maker. The very first song I ever made was called “You Never” I made the beat, the lyrics and engineered all by myself. I remember I was in high school and I was in Spanish class, I was passing out my CDs around the school and someone asked to play it, I was too embarrassed so I went to the bathroom as they played it, when I came back the entire class was shocked and told me that I sounded great.
From that day, I decided to push hard and keep getting better. I have made many songs back in the day but the only ones I can find from my past were not even my first three but the fourth song I ever made with my close friend Hasani called “My Request.” That song alone got me in the door with so many talented artists and people who helped shaped me into the artist I am today. I never took music professionally, however, until January 2019, after being laid off from my job (Northside Hospital) in Atlanta. Unsure about my future I figured now was the perfect time to take music seriously. It was my first time stepping back into the music scene after a long hiatus. I’ve decided to re-introduce myself with “Time”. “Marz” and “Hypno”. (Fun Fact: all these songs are freestyles that I thought would never make sense or be as popular as they are). Along with my journey came love and pain.
My goal, however, is to shake the music industry in my own wave and put love and soul back into it. I want to show the world that business can exist without corruption and selfishness, what I value overall is the betterment of everyone and to show that you can show love even if it is not shown back because love is much bigger than any hate or selfishness, love is everything. R&B used to encapture this, somewhere along the way, we lost touch; I am here to bring all of that back.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not a single person ever had anything easy, regardless, success takes hard work. I have had many blessings, just as I have had many many challenges and obstacles. From financial hardships due to losing jobs, to be devestantling heartbroken all while being broke and homeless. I still had patience and kindness in my heart because I know that even at the most lowest points in life, you still have to remain yourself. There will always be obstacles that comes our way, but no matter what, we have to be stronger than the things that were sent to destroy us.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am known for being the R&B singer who “Does Donuts in the parking lot as he freestyles” – a quote from one of my closet friends Kevin Kerr (Kerration). But I also specialize in Songwritting, Rapping, Artist Development, Vocal Coaching. What sets me apart from any other artist is not only my diversity but my objective/goal/target in music. I want to show the world that I think beyond money and fame, I want to make a difference, that difference in making an impact in not only the world but in History. Hopefully I am able to do that in my music in a way that people can enjoy and relate. Not to be confused I do make music based off the emotions we all feel but do not express or talk about. I do not portray a life I do not live.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Right now, to continue what I am doing, helping other artist find their mark in music. As far as any big changes? Well, I am currently working on three albums. I am finished with 1 which will be out soon called “L.o.V.E [LettingOutVariousEmotions]”. This album will focus on Love. The various different ways that one can express it, I guarentee you this album will leave your heart and soul happy.
