Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Nicole.
Kendra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a great childhood growing up in a small town of Fairmont, West Virginia. My mother and my late great grandmother (Nanny) took great care of myself and brother Justin who is five years younger than me. We wanted for nothing! We traveled, I took up gymnastics at an early age, and played in the band in Middle school and high school. I was also a cheerleader since the age of 12. At the if 16, my mother brought me my first car, a nice convertible, I had it going on! Although I had a great life, I felt like I wanted more in my life.
I lost my father in a fire when I was a baby. Although I had my mom and my Nanny to love and care for me, I’ve always wanted to know what it would be like to have a father figure in my life. Not having a father allowed me to seek attention in a manner to fill that void. At the age of 18, I was months shy of graduating from high school. I picked up a part-time job and saved money to prepare to live on my own. Once I moved into my own apartment, Adulthood slapped me in the face. I got pregnant and unfortunately, suffered from an abusive relationship for four years. Eventually, I grow tired and enough was enough. I then relocated to Pittsburgh, PA, just myself band my daughter so we could start over and have a new life. Things became difficult as a single. I was used to having help from her father, my mother and Nanny.
In Pittsburgh, I had nobody. I had to fend for myself. I then made the decision to have my daughter live with her father in West Virginia, while I stayed in Pittsburgh to work. I got a great job, with great pay and benefits at Aetna. I enrolled in College at the University of Phoenix, took up Business Administration. After five years of being with the company, I wanted to do something greater. I knew God had given me a bigger in life. I was introduced to acting in 2013. I absolutely loved the craft of acting, being on set even for 12-15 hours a day. I didn’t look at it as a “job” because I loved the art of being an actress.
I moved to Atlanta in November of 2013 to pursue a larger platform as an actress. I stayed with my mother for a couple of years because the cost of living exceeded my low income as an actress. I had to pick up a job just to make ends meet. I got into my first place in Duluth, GA but was evicted within two months. Even the eviction didn’t deture me from my goals as an actress. I then got a feature role in Tyler Perry’s “The Haves And The Have Not’s” Season 6. It was the most incredible experience ever! I was then offered the opportunity to model in fashion shows. I trained in the gym for months and attended weekly rehearsals for the Fashion show “Submerged” in 2015. Since then, I have modeled on several fashion shows and appeared in TV One’s “Definitely Divorcing” in 2016. Although I hit rock bottom a few times, I never have up on my dreams. The key is to keep God first and never give up. Even when people judged me and some negatively over my life. I had to spoke positive affirmations over my life!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Some of the struggles I’ve faced were losing my place to live. Being homeless with children was something I was never prepared for. One day I had it all, then the next I lost everything. It was a very traumatic experience. I had a troubled relationship with my family because it looks as if my life was in shambles and I couldn’t pick up the pieces to save my life. I was hurting, and end up attracting people that were no good for me nor conducive to my growth. I had to purge everything in my life in order to get on the right track.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am an actress. I’m in school to get my Real Estate License, with Keller Williams Real Estate Partners, I’m an investor in Bitcoin with Mirror Trading International and I’ve started my Single Mothers ministry. I am most of proud of all my accomplishments because Investing and Real Estate is always something I wanted to do. My Single Mother’s Ministry is my way of giving back to those who helped me when I was down. I truly believe in “Paying it forward” What sets me apart from others is my heart and soul is in giving back, not for recognition but being there for single moms when they have nowhere else to turn to. I don’t care what others think of me. When it’s time for me to depart from this earth, I want God to say “A job well done, my good and Faithful Servant.”
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would definitely watch the company I keep, and not entertain everyone that looked my way. I attached myself to the wrong people that were no good me. I would definitely heal from past pain before starting a new chapter with old baggage.
